Anybody noticed the funky UPS deliveries?

I normally track shipments online, for the most part with the browser window open to the side and it just stays that way until i get the delivery.

For 3 of the 4 shipments i've expected the past 2 months, they seem to update the tracking info with some odd delivery times.

Case in point,

Package 1 arrived 4:04 p.m., delivered to front door - I was out front the whole time, and it was 5 p.m. I called UPS and within 20 minutes of me hanging up the UPS delivery guy came and delivered my package. The time was then updated.

Package 2 followed a similar suite.

Package 3, arrived 3:03 p.m. (It's still 12 noon). No package outside the door either.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Somewhat. I found it extra odd when they said "delivered, signed by _____" when I didn't receive any delivery and my name certainly isn't Irish.

Guess that's better than Fedex claiming my office was closed the day after Thanksgiving immediately after they had just delivered some packages.
Needless to say I had to go pick that package up myself that night.

Hey, if UPS can just manage to get a box to me that hasn't been kicked around by drunken ogres and used as a flotation device for a drowning sperm whale, I consider myself lucky.

The thing about UPS is they seem to have a very firmly entrenched corporate culture of not caring. They just don't care. They don't care if your package arrives on time, they don't care if it gets stolen outside your door, and they don't care if it gets damaged. The driver's don't care, the handlers don't care, their supervisors don't make them care, and the executives aren't phased by it, or they would make changes in the supervisors. I've lived in a lot of places, far enough away to use different shipping hubs, and the result is always the same with UPS: your package gets beaten to hell, and they throw it at your door and run without knocking or bothering to get a signature.

Meanwhile, Fed-Ex boxes arrive looking pristine, with the edges on the cardboard still sharp, and the drivers won't leave them without a signature or a waiver on file. Guess which one I use any time I have the option?

I know they will some times do this at USPS because they have a time line thing and they will scan your package early even if they have not delivered it

Your driver is probably scanning packages ahead of time, especially now if he is receiving help instead of transferring the packages to another driver's board he may just scan them as delivered to save time.

And for what's it's worth thomsbrain I had FedEx deliver a smashed Xbox 360.

Sometimes Iship actually has better updating than the UPS site. But, then again, I don't sit with a browser window tracking shipments.

I do not know if this is necessarily the reason, and I do not mean to start a side discussion about this (there are plenty of other threads about the subject) but, in case you were not aware, the drivers at UPS are unionized, FedEx drivers are not. In fact, I think FedEx drivers are independent contractors.

Just more pieces of information to consider.

Invariably, stuff like this always shows up every time UPS is discussed in a topic.

The service you receive is entirely dependent on the area you live in. Perhaps you've just been plain unlucky and received a couple of bad packages.

My situation is different. UPS delivers nearly every package to me in pristine condition. Yes, once every couple of months, I get a banged up package, but otherwise it's fine. Through Fedex, I've had a couple of shipments arrive DOA, and the drivers were often rude.

I wouldn't base an opinion on an entire company just because of bad local service.
