I'm somewhat familiar with Fairbanks, but since I've never lived there any helpful advice from residents would be appreciated!

Suggestions on internet rates, cell phone rates, activities, maybe an outdoors club or something? There is a shooting range down the road from my house, so I'll definitely be checking that out.

Outdoor club? You've got Denali National Park right there. That's all you need. ;)

I was only there for a couple weeks with the army back in the early 90s, but it is a beautiful area. I'd love to go back and do some hiking and camping. I should scan and post some of my photos.

I wish it wasn't quite so cold in the winter... but very beautiful country!

Get a block heater for your car (if you don't have one already).

And socks with battery powered heaters. Had some in North Dakota and they work awesome!

We need to have an Alaskan AT get-together. I had no clue so many AT'ers lived in AK.

AK-Represent!!!!

Haha...odd...this is the 2nd ATOT thread today that had to do with Alaska.

RaiderJ- I got some advice from some of my buddies who went to college @ UAF when I was planning on going there years ago.

Buy a BIG parka.
Find a large woman to snuggle next to (I'd rather find a hot chick and freeze to death)
Buy an extra set of keys so you can leave your vehicle running and doors locked while your: grocery shopping, getting gas, pretty much everything in the winter.
GET A BLOCK HEATER

Not much else since you already live in the AK. Just think of Fairbanks as a smaller Anchorage that is colder in the winter, hotter in the summer; and if you thought the guy/girl ratio was bad in Anchorage...just wait till you get to FBX.

Definitely need to get a block heater (just don't have $$$ at the moment). Have a girlfriend (not big thankfully), plenty of warm gear, have auto/remote start. Looking to finish the garage on my place before winter, so I have a warm place to put my vehicles.

My house!
