Anybody knows about Cable modem uncapper?

Is it illegal to use it?
Do I have to load a new firmware for it to work ? Or is that software based?

My cable modem is RCA from @home.

It kinda sucks but my upload used to be 150kb/s constant a month ago. Right now it is only doing 15kb/s constant 🙁

it's not an uncapper, it's just bios.. but your might not have a standard bios.

Where do I download the BIOS for my cable modem ??

Well, not sure about rca, but when I was at cablevision doing @home stuff.. we bring them in and program new chips on it to limit the rate, but some people go on manufactures web site and download bioses..

this is really strange... My athome did 150K upload just about a week ago. My cable was down the whole day on monday and when it came back up, I can only upload at 15kb/s 🙁

Will downloading BIOS resolve the problem ?

Not in your case, sound's more like your having connection/bandwidth problems then a cap.
Unless AT&T reps snuck into your house and switched modems on you 🙂

Actually some provider such as cablevision can upload you a new rom and cycle the modem remotely..

Sounds like they implemented the 128k cap on you. We've had it here for a while.

This totally sucks 🙁

I had 150kb/s upload for sometime now .. like 1/2 a year... now that my upload is about 15kb/s I can't really manage my PCs remotely and download huge files from my home network remotely 🙁
