Anybody know when Day Z full standalone game will be complete?

Really wish they used the Arma III engine on this. The gameplay video that was shown (E3, I think?) looked like a huge improvement but still had the Arma II level graphics.

Actually, some sort of improved anti-cheat is probably the single most important feature that it needs.

Definitely this. When having to basically restart after dying, anit-cheating should be at the top of the list.

I think they said they're using an early modified version of the ARMA III engine.

The mod for Arma 2 was never really finished. The developer, Rocket, has been off doing quite a lot of other things recently, he hasn't really spent his time on the mod. Since BIS hasn't put many staff on it the project it is progressing very slowly.

A team of modders have already ported DayZ for Arma 2 into the Arma 3 engine, something which notably BIS said wasn't possible over a year ago. In all honesty soon it wont matter, the DayZ on Arma 3 mod is quite likely to surpass the standalone version anyway especially in graphics. They have simply spent too long making the product now, its rapidly reaching the point where no one would care about its release, especially considering its on a 3 year old graphics engine that doesn't run very well.

Probably another year, despite the amount of profitability dayz has brought to bohemian via increased arma2 purchases, the developement of dayz does not seem to be a high priority. Also, Rocket seems to be more interested in living his life than working on the game. Everytime they show an update I think to myself 'what that is all they have done in 3 months?'.

This x 1000. I was so supportive when DayZ mod came out, but seeing all these fanboys getting played by rocket is just funny. I was one of the first Private server people to be banned on the reddit AND forums last june when I was one of 5 servers doing my own private HIVE off the official HIVE servers. We kept asking them to make it non-HIVE based since arma 2 was hackable like crazy and some owners didn't want to follow their lame rules, or wanted the ability to add their own stuff to servers. They (actual dev team) ended up telling us directly that they didn't like the idea, and when we kept going with it they eventually deleted our threads and banned a few of the people on my team.

2 months pass by, and suddenly the official HIVE is shut down because it's a hackers paradise (lol, total "I told you so" moment). They told people to do EXACTLY what we had done: use someone else's server client. At the same time, Rockets own team started leaving and opening up server hosting companies, effectively riding the fad and leaving him for dead.

I took my servers down in January of this year because I just couldn't support this shit. Now we're what, almost a year from DayZ mod and all we have to show is rocket going to Everest and some new skins/pathing in youtube videos?

LfuckingOL.

A single 21 year old/a handful of amateurs with A2editor could get more done than their whole team has done in an entire year. Just go watch the videos and tell me that game is anywhere near release. This isn't even counting that Arma 3 is hacked already and DayZ SA is based on A3 code. I have a feeling the game wont sell nearly as many copies as they expect. None of my IRL friends want anything to do with DayZ because of how buggy it looks.

This is wrong. I haven't really been following DayZ that closely, and even I can tell you they've accomplished way more than that.

From the brief videos they've shown of the DayZ standalone, they've taken the ARMA engine and optimized it completely for DayZ, they cut out all of the unnecessary background processes and code, re-wrote a large chunk of the netcode, redesigned many parts of the terrain, completely overhauled the UI, redesigned every single building to have an interior, completely re-created the lighting system, created a whole new loot spawning system, mo-capped new player and zombie animations, created new player models and enemy models, recorded new audio, added new vehicles, and probably some more stuff I don't know about.

Saying all they've done is "new skins/pathing" is beyond exaggeration, to the point of dishonesty.

So what you are saying is they've done what 2 people could have done over the course of a year. Ok? Half the things you listed were already done when arma 3 came out or done in a arma 2 mod (much like dayz was just a collaboration of A2 mods in the beginning). If you count adding new skins and interiors to buildings as "huge improvements" then you don't have any understanding of how easy it is to add assets in the ARMA franchise. Pathing and adding new inventory slots are a few improvements I've seen that haven't been replicated in a mod, and that's because IIRC they got some of the arma 3 engine designers to help them on pathing/adding headpieces etc.

The bottom line is they've made SOME improvements, but they have a small team (re:4-5 people at this speed) working on such a highly anticipated game by its fanbase/customers.
