Anybody know what happens to a Dell order after 3rd failed delivery attempt?

I cannot get a straight answer out of Dell and FedEx.

I have a Dell order that has had two of the allowed three failed delivery attempts. The third should be tomorrow. Dell has restrictions on the package that prevent me from holding it at a FedEx location for pickup, and I don't want to leave $1500 worth of gigantic dell boxes on my porch so indirect signature is out.

FedEx tells me it will get held for 10 days, Dell says it goes straight back to them.

Anybody have any actual experience with this?

It wasn't Dell, but I recently bought a laptop that was delivered by FedEx. I had a similar situation where the package could not be held at a FedEx location as per seller instructions. The delivery failed three times. After that I was able to pick it up from the main FedEx hub on the other side of town. They still couldn't transfer it to the location near me, but I was able to get the package.

I'd say Fedex is probably right, it's in their hands now, and most carriers do have a hold policy, before they send it back. Just be sure to go pick it up before then. I would not count on it being actually 10 days though, most I've seen is like 3-5, but maybe it really is 10.

Hopefully your Fedex depot is easier to get to than mine. For mine I actually have to book an appointment and everything, it's weird. Have to go behind a building and knock at a non descript metal door. It feels like a drug deal lol.

I don't know, but I just told Dell to go to hell. I bought from the Dell Outlet and paid for overnight shipping. When I got the order email, the refurb unit that they had in stock was in 'processing' and wouldn't ship until THURSDAY.

I called to complain and my friendly Indian call center girl told me that the laptop was being built so it took some time. I pointed out that it was a scratch and dent refurb that was already built, and she didn't have a good answer after that. Order cancelled. Lenovo ordered. Will be here tomorrow.

Also not Dell but had the same thing happen. Seemed pretty damn odd for them to not be able to just hold it at the FedEx pickup location to start as doing otherwise was just wasting everyone's time.

It was pretty weird for me as well. It was gated with an intercom system. You had to speak to someone inside and have them buzz the gate open. Then I kept driving to similar metal door. I didn't need to schedule an appointment though. It felt like getting in a military base, aside from no armed guards.

And my Lenovo from Amazon showed up right on time. Dear Dell - you're not staying competitive. It doesn't take 4 days to get a box out the door. Signed - your customers.

Computer sales are almost a thing of the past outside of Enterprise and small business. Scratch and Dent isn't on their radar because you're buying inventory they've already written off.

I know Dell is selling TV's and tablets and phones....not sure what the company is going to turn into over the next decade. Computer sales are likely to continue to shrink as we get more into the age of apps and pay-for-service based software.

Thanks to a flexible employer I sat at home watching the street from 8 am to 3:30 pm and I now have my two P4317Q displays.

I would seriously love to know the logic behind such a stupid rule, but despite Dell's best efforts I have actually received what I ordered.

Lol. I placed an order for an outlet monitor, got an invoice and everything. A few days later I notice the status hasn't changed, so I go to pull up the order - only the order isn't there. It doesn't even exist. Turns out they never even charged my card and somehow lost the order.

Cue getting on with support and trying to get them to place a new order. For whatever reason the useless morons couldn't even do that. I tried 3 times to get a new order through (hey, it was a good price) but in the end I just gave up.

I'm still trying to figure out how they could possibly lose an order like that.
