I can't seem to tease this information out of any of the websites you'd think to look at, but I'm trying to find out what resolutions HD-DVD and BluRay will be limited to. I'm not just talking about the upper bound, (which is 1080i or 1080p depending) I mean the specific resolutions or ranges of resolutions which the format can use. I know that the major resolutions -- 480i/p, 720i/p and 1080i/p -- will be supported, but what if I were to throw, for example, an H264 video stream at 960x544 with AC3 audio on there? Will that be up to HD-DVD or BluRay standard, or will I have to up/downconvert everything that isn't exactly 1080i, etc.? Or has this even been decided yet?
