I want to give my new PC the max protection possible. Which brand/model of UPS is good? My PC will be using an Antec TruePower 430 Watt, along with the ViewSonic A90f+ 19" CRT, and a Westell DSL modem. I want to have them all covered :)

I've always liked my APC BackUPS Pro 1000 :D

The one thing is that it uses a serial connection to the computer, so I can't make use of any of the advanced features like auto PC shutoff...

I have a APC Back UPS Pro 1100 that I picked up from Sams Club for only $118. It has run 2 reasonably powered systems, 1 19" monitor, 1 15" monitor and a printer without a problem. The only thing i dont like is that it doesnt have some of the new "smart" features of the newer UPS'.

I've been using Cyber Power units for several years now. I purchased any original 1500VA from outpost a LONG time ago for 100.00 courtesy of the Hot Deals forum. A year or so later I think the battery failed, so I emailed their support and got an RMA. Within 24hrs I received a followup email and a week or so later they sent me (2) UPS'es since the 1500VA was discontinued. I now had a 900AVR & 700AVR (automatic voltage regulation) . :) A few months ago the 900AVR battery (couple of years old) puked and I got another hassle-free RMA. I received my replacement 900VA and all is well.

Ditto for me. Now if they'd just include one of those back braces with it... ;)

i highly reccomend getting a UPS with line conditioning. Ive had multiple customers (businesses) that have had server PSUs die on a UPS without line conditioning, because of a lack of protection from mild sags. The Cyber Power AVR series has this "Advanced Voltage Regulator" (fancy wording for line conditioning). When there is a sag that doesnt knock the power out totally, the battery kicks in and powers the PCs until it gets back to acceptable levels.

I have:
1200 Belkin
450 Belkin
350 APC

Highly recommend the 1200 Belkin. One of the best out there currently.

Best Power and APC have always been right up there. Used to be Sola, Exide and Deltec (E and D were really the same product) were highly regarded.
All of the listed brands except for APC have been gathered into one new company called Powerware. Not as well known as APC which has and does spend a bundle on advertising - and about the only thing American about them any more is their name - but Powerware's tech should be equally good.
. And their prices are reasonable too - see Pricewatch.

APC rules for me. It always amazes me when my APC buzzes. I know it just caught a power spike and saved my computer. That's when you say to yourself, "thanks self for getting this UPS". :)

I have an APC Back-UPS XS 1000. It uses a USB connection for communication with the PC. Been quite happy with it. Has under-and over-current protection (that can be user-set), and has noise filtration built in. It'll run my rig for about 25 minutes off of battery power if needed. Reasonably priced, and I don't regret spending the money on it at all. Several good choices available out there -- I bought the APC because my local dealer had it in stock, and the price fit my budget.

My little 650va is an APC ... It's saved my linux box from 2 reboots in the last couple of months ... and It's nice to have my alarm clock on it .. in case the power goes out when I am sleeping

Just install a large ferroresonant transformer at your service entrance, then use any cheap UPS. Line regulation, spike protection, and transfer time become meaningless. :D

I like the old APC Back-UPS Pro series (not the Back-UPS Pro USB). They seem to have much longer run time than the newer units (even higher rated ones).

I have 2 APC backups here at home and both are great. Its especially good when you leave the house while the co mputer does something all the time to come back and still see it running when sometimes power can go out for a few seconds and all your processing goes waste, hehe.
