A lot of laptops use non-socketed processors. Most Dells, Asus, HP, etc... (not apple) are some good examples.
The only time it is likely that the processors are soldered on is the case of thin and light notebooks. Removing the socket and soldering in the part take a way a little width allowing for slightly thinner cases.
