anybody know or have a list of notebooks with socketed processors?

A lot of laptops use non-soldered processors. Most Dells, Asus, HP, etc... (not apple) are some good examples.

The only time it is likely that the processors are soldered on is the case of thin and light notebooks. Removing the socket and soldering in the part take a way a little width allowing for slightly thinner cases.

You mean non-soldered?

Apple's Intel-based notebooks are soldered if I'm not mistaken. Agreed on the ultra thin & light machines, most of the rest should be socketed. Current Lenovo notebooks are socketed, I believe HP's are, and Dell as well.

Right on! One of the common failings in laptops, especially those subject to sustained vibration, is that the CPU sometimes needs to be reseated.
