besides the ECS 755A, or any info on whether or not that board is any good. Thinking about getting the 240 dollar Athlon 64 and putting it on a 755 board. The chipset is new and does not yet have a lot of support. I see the ECS board around for 80 bucks or so which isn't bad.

What other support, beyond drivers, do you need? As usual with SiS focussing on high volume OEMs first, the ECS board is first to market.
Since SiS have been reusing well matured functional parts from Athlon and P4 chipsets, (similar to what VIA did), I wouldn't expect too much driver or BIOS update hassle either.

Well I' upgrading from a Soyo K7VDragon Plus 1900+ with 7 internal and one external drive so one of those internal ones will have to go. Other than that I like the price and chipset better than the MSI K8 neo board that's getting some best 64 board reviews and is cheeper. Will probably not do much as far as overclock. I was going to go P4, but the drop to 240 retail for the 512 Cache 64 is rather tempting and 80 bucks for the board wouldn't be the end of the world if something better comes along later. I guess the ECS is the only one to reach market.?.?

Typically, as I said, SiS focus on their largest customers, and that is the ECS group and then ASUS. I wouldn't expect anyone else to come up with a shipping board anytime soon.

I remember the promise for Asus and the 745 chipset...

SIS, while a great performer, has never had the pull like VIA or Nvidia...I wouldn't expect too much.

I'm guessing they would sell to anyone who would buy them, I don't think they are only letting ECS use their chipsets. It would be nice to see some reviews of actual retail boards for this chipset.

A7S333 did happen. Although I find ASUS has a bit of a tendency to treat their SiS solutions in a half-arsed manner, as far as performance tuning and BIOS aftermath are concerned.

Much of SiS chipset output is consumed by Elitegroup anyhow. This might make other large volume contenders a tad unhappy. SiS has always been big at the budget end (hence the apparently good relationship with the ECS group, particularly the PC-Chips OEM outlet), and since the 735 brought their performance levels up to par, have gained a lot of market share in higher segments too.

Nothing wrong with choosing their product. Public perception is and has always been a bit behind the fact.

I noticed that the ECS 755 board is in stock at newegg now...I'm debating between this and the MSI VIA chipset board. Waiting for some reviews on the ECS....

ECS is $91 so Asus is going to be above $100 probably not as much of a bargain as I was hoping. Looks like a VIA board would be a better deal.

I've got the ECS mobo with a 3000+. Although the mobo is very stable at stock speeds, it doesn't offer much as far as tweaks for the enthusiast.

ECS while offering good performance, has always offered few chioces to the overclocker. I am a big fan of the 735 chipset since I still have 2 running. My only concern with the 755 is that the VIA/NF3 will tweak the BIOS to offer even more choices to overclockers while the ECS will stay as is only recognizing new CPU's. I have seen a couple of reviews bases on a refrence board, and am quite impresed that it seems like the fastest chipset for the A64 at the moment. I am seriously considering a 755/A64 3000+ upgrade, and I hope that ECS adds a couple of twikable setting to this one.

ECS "plain" series mainboards traditionally offer no such toys. That, and their huge production volume, contributes to the low price points they achieve. Their main business is simple boards for the masses.

However, recently they have started a "Photon" series of boards catering more to the enthusiast crowd. Let's see whether they'll do one with the SiS 755 ...
