I'm looking for some tracks of music... jazz/blues... but I want to find music that sounds like the type you would hear played from an old, old record player/phonograph. You know, that real tinny, muffled sound. I heard some on the radio yesterday, but I couldn't figure out what album it would be on. I know the group had Pee Wee Russell in it, along with a bunch of other people. Any ideas?

I'm going for atmosphere. To more appropriately describe the sound... I want it to sound like whenever you see an old WWII movie, and they're playing music on the radio... or any old movie like that from back in the 30s/40s/50s

Louis Armstrong - Heebie Jeebies from the Hot Fives album?

Or as Mwilding said, Ragtime would fit that atmosphere. E.g. Scott Joplin's The Entertainer.

Well that's the problem, I can find old jazz, but most of the time it seems to have been "remastered" and sounds fine... I want it to sound like it did if I heard it on the radio back then.

That sounds pretty good... that's more along the lines of the sound I am going for.

Try some Robert Johnson blues. Those recordings were so bad that even remastered, they probably have crackles and pops....

:music:I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above, have mercy now, save poor Bob if you please
Standin' at the crossroads, tried to flag a ride
Whee-hee, I tried to flag a ride
Didn't nobody seem to know me, everybody pass me by
Standin' at the crossroads, risin' sun goin' down
Standin' at the crossroads baby, the risin' sun goin' down
I believe to my soul now, po' Bob is sinkin' down
You can run, you can run, tell my friend Willie Brown
You can run, you can run, tell my friend Willie Brown
That I got the crossroad blues this mornin', Lord, baby I'm sinkin' down
I went to the crossroad, mama, I looked east and west
I went to the crossroad, babe, I looked east and west
Lord, I didn't have no sweet woman, ooh well, babe, in my distress:music:

If your looking for it on vinyl, 45s (the tiny ones with the big hole in the middle) seems to sound kinda tinny comapred to 33s (bigger than 45s). But good luck trying to find vinyls in the first place. Not many or any vinyl shops I know of anymore.

Probably way too recent for what you want but I love the song Green Onions by Booker T and the MG's
