Anybody know if the engine from a third gen Accord (86-89) will work in a 2nd gen Accord (82-85)?

My dad found a 1985 Accord LX with a blown engine (broke a timing belt, valve damage, etc.). I have a totalled but running 89 Accord...

Any chance that this would work relatively easily? If you don't know, how would I find out?

If so it'd be a cheap way to get a vehicle for now.

On an older car with not so complicated engine, it would be a piece of cake. But those complex little oriental cars are a PITA. Nothin like working on a vintage Mustang or 1940's Chevy :)

Good luck, Gregg. Your uncle should be able to help, right?

Hmm. Well, the theory is all the same, though. If nothing else, go to a professional shop around here.

I recommend Bassett. I went to school with the owner's daughter and have had work done there. He doesn't dick you around. He tells you straight up what's going on.

Mine (89) is a DX coupe, the other is an LX... Unsure what body style it is.

Heh, on a unrelated note, the hood of an 85 accord goes up like an expensive sports car instead of a "normal car"

I don't know the answer to your question really, but you could probably figure it out realitivly easy.. find the model# (I believe its on the engine block) and other information.. like serial#...

And then search around online... perhaps see if you can find sites that sell the "same" engine for use in the model years you want...

shrug.. hehe
