Anybody know how to specify the speed for a 3COM 3CSOHO-TX network card (or ANY 3COM NIC, for that matter)?

Got a customer on the line whose 3COM NIC is refusing to autodetect the speed through his network. It detects fine through a crossover to his router, but not through his hub. I've fixed this many times in the past by setting the speed from auto-detect to specify either 10 or 100 baseT half duplex... But I can't find the damn setting for this NIC. I have a 3COM NIC in my PC here as well, & I'm not showing the option here either... Where the *$&$#! is it?

I don't know what OS you're using, but under Win2K, it's Control Panel > Network and Dial-up Connection > Local Area Connection > Properties > Configure > Advanced > Media Type.

Under Windows 9X, start, settings, control panel, network.

double-click the NIC, choose the "advanced" tab.

The speed should be one of the properties, you should have several choices including 10mbit, 100mbit, and autodetect.

There should also be a duplex mode property, you should have choices of full, half, or autodetect.

I know that it's normally there, but the only options he has (and I have) are:

Adapter PCI Bus Number
Adapter PCI Slot Number
NDIS Driver Version

Hmmm, some 3com NICs include some sort of control panel or diagnostics right? Anything of that sort available to manipulate the speed?

BINGO! Vinny got it...

3COM NIC Doctor, on the Start Menu.

Why the hell can't they just put it in the same place everybody else does?

Thanks!
