Hi there,
I am trying to get 2 Maxtor 120 GB 5400rpm HDs running on my dell precision 420 (dual 866 PIIIs). Currently they are each connected as masters on primary and secondary.
Only one is being seen. I tried switching their positions (from prim to sec) and even switching the cables around and nothing works.
The computer will on see one in disk management. However, both are seen in my device manager and the second one always has a yello exclamation point icon indicating that the computer must be restart in order for the device device to run properly (CODE 14).
My C drive is a scsi not IDE these 2 additional drives are merely for storage.

I have tried Dell tech support for hours and they have no further ideas.
Microsoft wants $200+ for tech support and arent even sure if they can get it to work?

Does anybody have ANY ideas!! ?? Please help!

thanks,
Demian

Thanks for the recommendation. I have the most recent Bios update and both drives are recognized in the bios at full capacity. Does anybody know what "CODE 14" means?

Code 14: This code means the device has a problem that may be resolved by restarting your computer. To resolve this error code, shut down Windows, turn off your computer, and then turn it back on.

Solution button: Restart Computer

It was not real helpful but that is all the actual information for code 14.

Try this and please repost to let us know what happened.

First... Recheck that both drives are jumpered correctly.
Second... Make sure both drives are connected to the end of the cable
Third... If these things are correct then go online and do a google search for HERE DL the FDISK program and read the directions. THIS IS A MUST.

FDISK the drives for fat32 to see if you can get them seen by Win 2000

Reboot to DOS / Boot disk.
Format atleast one partition from each disk then reboot and go into Win 2000 and see if they are in Admin tools.

PS have you installed Service pack 1 and 2??

Try to install service pack 2 and latest update.

Call Maxtor for help. You might get a defective drive.
