My dad's asking about some icon on his PC at work called "Windows Remote Desktop Agent." He says every few minutes it disappears, & his computer slows down significantly.

I think I recognize the name as something I used at the college a few years back. They were running it on a lab network, & it allowed them to see what was on the screen of any PC that had it installed. From playing with it, though, I remember it being a lot more transparent... ie no performance hit.

Am I correct in telling him that?

If not, what is it?

There are numerous kinds of desktop agents made for Windows. Tivoli has an agent and many other companies have the same too. The newest desktop agents can be deployed and not be visible, can scan your system for files and can remote control it with ease. If the icon is flashing, someone may be looking at his sytem and *could* be scanning the drive for specific file versions of many things.

When I did this before, we installed an agent that verified IE4 files on the system. If a user installed IE5 and these files were changed, our script would immediately return the files and registry keys that WE wanted back to their box. It's not an easy thing to get done correctly, but it can be done
