A relative wants to ship her car over to Asia from the U.S.

The car is not paid off yet.. if that makes any difference. (I don't think the car has to be fully paid for right?)

lol, why would she want to do that? she can probably sell it and buy two wherever she's going...

nah. cars are luxuries in asian countries. You can use public transportation or a scooter. A similar car might cost 60% to 100% more.

when i was in the air force i knew of a couple of guys who were denied by their finance company from shipping thier car to europe becaue it was not paid off yet. I think it just varies from company to company, i belive the two guys i knew were finaced by GMAC. one shipped anyway, he told them as long as i am making my payments i can do what i want with it, of which i agree.

If it is not paid off they might not allow it to go abroad. I knew of a similar situation where the lending instituiton said no to such a request.

Just need to rent a container and hire people to pack the car on. It's fairly inexpensive. I have a friend that did it to Hawaii (filled the rest of the container with Ikea stuff for her friends)

what make and where is it going? some countries have laws regarding used car imports. For example, you cannot bring a used Japanese car into Taiwan.
