I'm sorry about your bro man.. not saying I know anything about prison, but I would assume that it would vary greatly depending on the prison. What's he in for and how old is he?

I have some friends who have been there. It really depends on the location and type of prison and how it is administered. My advice would be to visit often and make sure he has enough positive reading materials. be they technical or philosophica, so that he can make constructive progress and not just sink into despair. It's not the end of the world, but there are obviously a lot of physical and psychological dangers.

added: btw, while prison rape is a reality it is not true that all inmates are raped, so cut out your gay domination fantasies and have a little compassion for OP.

It's not fun, 1 in 5 prisoners is sexaully assaulted, supposedly the best thing to do is try to take out a bad guy on your first day, or decide who's bitch you're going to be.

Supposedly the federal prisons aren't as bad as state or privately run prisons.

What did your brother do? Or allegedly do?

i work in the local jail during summers.

a jail, is nothing like a prison (i assume he is going to a state pen?)

a jail is a holding area, or for prisoners with sentences less than 1 year. however, sentences greater than a year then they go to the state pen. basically, its much rougher than the jail. the only advantages are they can go outside, and smoke. thats it. its a terrible place, you must be on constant alert for your safety. tell him to make friends quick, and to try and lay low for a while

my brother committed two felonies before this one, something about possession of controlled substances (lots of morphine, overdosed and almost died), second was burglary, this new one is, burglary 1, attempted assault 2, harassment, possession of a deadly weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a deadly weapon. so he's for sure getting possession and unlawful use of a deadly weapon, the attempted assault and burglary are maybes. it'll most likely be min security, since he hasn't done anything real bad.
