Anybody know anything about British cars?

My brother was sent off to Switzerland and decided he needed an inexpensive car to take him around.

He found a Rover 214SI.
3 doors, 76kW
British racing green
On green plates
Year 1999, 138000km
New winter and summer tires on rims
very reliable car, always serviced
Price 1950 Euro negotiable

Has a few dents I guess. Is this a good deal? I know absolutely nothing about these things.

Here are the listed pics.

Seems relatively reasonable.. I wouldn't want to pay more than 1500-1700 Euros for it though. Tell him not to expect anything special though, They aren't very good cars.

thanks for the replies. What about some nice reliable brands that he should be able to find in that area in that price range?

Does lucas still exist? or do the limeys use bosch parts now..? it might let the magic wiring harness smoke out, if it's lucas.

For a tiny little thing I'd look for a VW polo... maybe an opel corsa if you want cheaper, but they aren't as nice. polo and corsa are both pretty tiny. Golf or an astra are bigger.. but if you want a modern one i'd say you're going 3k+

astra

golf

In my opinion your brother might be better off using public transport than spending the money for a car. Will he live near a train station/in the city or in a remote place? Does he plan to use the car for commuting (gasp), transports or trips? How long will he stay in Switzerland?

Greetings from Switzerland...

He's going to be in Switzerland for 1-2 years or so as he's working at CERN. He found a place in France right on the border and he says he definitely needs a car. Any other suggestions?
