Anybody know anything about A/C repair here?

Last night I heard dripping from my a/c unit.. When I opened it up the radiator part (whatever) and the coils were iced up. was dripping everywhere. What could of caused this? The humidity was not bad, and it's been running fine for the last year and a half.

It's also not too old so it shouldn't need to be replaced.

Funny thing is we had an a/c guy come out here and make sure everything was running okay and he claimed we had low freon levels and need a new contactor (bullsh!t). Maybe he broke something? What could the problem be? Filter was clean.

Basically it sounds like the system was essentialy cooling out of control and when it dropped below both the dew and freezing point formed ice. At that point airflow was restricted meaning the air sat there longer which formed more ice. Continue this cycle until 100% blocked.

A/C units that freeze up usually DO mean low freon levels...

is it possible that the guy who came over to 'look' at it let out some freon?
