I'm looking to buy a dell 8400 and comes with a ATI X300se card and I want to switch to an X600 for better gaming. Has anybody used that card or know how much better it is than the X300?

I believe the X600 is about equal to a 9600XT, but I'm not 100% sure about that. What are the available cards and how much is it to upgrade to each?

X600 is a 9600XT just on PCI express. It's not that fast of a gaming card, although it is faster than an X300SE.

These are the cards offered with the 8400:

128MB PCI Express? x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon? X300 SE
256MB PCI Express? x16 Nvidia® GeForce 6800 GTO Graphics Card [add $280.00 ]
256MB PCI Express? x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800 [add $153.00 ]
256MB PCI Express? x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon? X800 XT [add $332.00 ]

$153 for a 256MB 6800? We have a winner.

As for the X600, does no one bother to read Anandtech's reviews anymore? Surely they put out an article or three on that card. Heck, I'm sure it was included in their HL2 midrange roundup.

Short answer, though, is that a X600 should be basically twice as fast as a X300SE, simply because it has twice the memory bandwidth (128- vs. 64-bit path to memory)
