They say that on Windows NT/2k/XP you have to be an administrator to play the game. I think that sucks because I don't want my little brother to mess up my mom's computer, but I still want him to be able to play. Anybody know how to get around this? Perhaps some user right? I tried act as operating system and create a token but that didn't work.

I'm a little rusty on this but in NT you can create user login's through START/PROGRAMS/ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS/USER MANAGER

You create a login for your brother with a password. Then I believe you create a group with rights to only the files and programs you want. Then make him a member of the group. I don't really know Win2k or XP at all so you'll need to get help from someone else on that.

What you want to do is entirely possible BTW>

This is simply not true and just a myth...
You can game just fine as a poweruser...
Speaking of Win2000, I am.
I would not use NT for gaming, anyway.
Sometimes installation needs an administrator account, but sometimes not even that.
I've installed many demos and games as a poweruser and played them.

Diablo 2 never worked as a poweruser under Win2k for me. Its not a myth-the installation instructions from Blizzard explicitly stated that you have to logged in as administrator for it to work.

Fortunately the kids haven't messed up my system yet. Just tell your brother not to horse around experimenting under the administrator account.

In WindowsXP Diablo2 works under the Limited Account. I should know, because I installed & played it on about 30 machines at my friends internet cafe. :)

It probably needs some type of rights to the registry so it needs the administrator account. Just use admin and if your brother doesn't know anything about comps, create a folder on the desktop for him with all the shortcuts of stuff he'll need. If he kinda knows about computers but messes it up while f*cking around, tell him not to :) and if he does it again, give him a little beating. ;)
