Anybody kjnow how to actually delete WM10?

Is there anyway at all to actually remove Windows Media Player from Windows XP SP2? Not just WM10 but also the Classic Player that is in the same folder. I want to remove them completely. Wipe them from the exsistence of my PC universe. Is there anyway to do that? Going to Add/Remove Windows components does nothing. Still stays there... hell, still opens when you try to open movie files. What the hell Microsoft?

Actually I thought in Add/Remove programs there's an option for Windows Components or something where you could remove some Windows stuff like WMP. It might not have WMP as an option, but it might let you do that.

Should be under add/remove components, click show updates, under windows XP software updates search for it, should see Windows Media Player 10 and maybe Windows Media Format Runtime as well.

Install whatever media player you want and fix your file associations.

Are you Microsofts biggest fanboy? 🙂

Why would you even want to anyway????/ 0.o WMP10 rocks!!! Anyway, like stash said, just reassign your file associations.

because I want to...that's why. to not allow me to remove an optional component like WMP10 is dumb.

'course, I don't really have that problem, since Debian lets me install/remove them all 😉

If you can't remove it, it clearly isn't optional.

😛

That said, WMP10 can be removed easily from appwiz.cpl, check the windows update box to show WMP10. Classic will still be on the sytem, but as I mentioned, you can easily install your player of choice and configure it to be the default player for all media.

I wish I could go back to WMP 9 in Windows XP. WMP 10 totally messed up my ability to make .MP3 radio recordings with my LeadTek 2000 Pro TV/FM tuner card. There are some known issues with WMP 10 and MP3 encoders.

Any MP3 I created is only about ten seconds long, even if I record for hours. I can record in .WMA fine, so I have to create .WMA files and then manually convert to .MP3.

I actually use Media Player Classic with the K-Lite codec pack to play my videos.

I just simply don't having useless crap installed on my computer. I should be able to delete an optional component if I wanted to.
