Anybody in my boat?

So I go out and buy the retail copy of vista home premium to be a good boy and comply with Microsoft's EULA. Now I didn't realize at the time that you had to ORDER a x64 disc if you wanted it with the home premium version...oh well...not a big deal. So I go order it the day I got the software. And I wait...next evening I get a note saying my order is being processed. After not hearing anything for a few days I call up and ask what's up with this. They say that it's backordered but a shipment is coming in today so it will ship. I wait a day and hear nothing...call again...same story, its backordered, shipment didn't come in, hopefully will come today. I wait again this time over the weekend and call up on monday(today). Now they inform me that I should expect it to ship by May 5th due to being backordered.

This is REALLY crappy. I am waiting on installing my new hard drives til this comes in as I don't want to install XP on them and then install Vista a bit later. I can only imagine what my frustration would be if I was a system builder and a client requested a x64 disc. I suppose I would have just ordered OEM in that case...

Anybody in this situation? I ordered the disc April 9th. I think almost 2 weeks should be more than enough time for a company the size of Microsoft to ship a DVD that has OEM copies EVERYWHERE.

Let's hope this May 5th date proves very conservative. It's almost like MS doesn't WANT people to get Vista ;)

AFAIK the holdup is that the SP1 discs aren't in yet, until they are MS won't ship anything. That said, no one would think less of you if you downloaded a copy of the Vista x64 installer; it's the license that matters, not the media.

Hey, you should call them. I had once ordered extra discs for my Vista Ultimate retail (it doesn't hurt to keep a backup),you have to keep reminding them via phone- I called every 4 days, they'll probably verify your product key and numbers on the discs. You can get it for free if you are under 90 day warranty period.

ViRGE is right - don't let this stall your plans. The delay is kinda dumb but you can just download the image file off the Net while you wait for the Microsoft-stamped copy to arrive.

Is there a reliable source for this? I worry about homebrew hacks or viruses being loaded into torrents of the OS.

The risk is overblown. It could happen, but with torrents in particular are like natural selection, those that are not fit will die (i.e. no one is going to touch a torrent once they realize it's faulty). In this case Microsoft has published the MD5 sums for the official images they provide, which means you can check anything you download and make sure it's legit.

SP1 Vista hit retail a while ago here...

I'm not advocating this per say, but there are obviously numerous ways to acquire an .iso of Vista SP1...or any version of Vista for that matter.

I downloaded the iso last night and installed this morning. Installation went without issue, already activated.

Only slight disappointment is that NVidia does not and will not have Vista drivers for NForce3. Silly me for thinking 3 years wasn't too long to support a product for. Things seem to be working fine otherwise. I installed a few drivers and my most used apps and haven't had any issues.

Thanks everyone, now Microsoft can take even more time to send me the disc. At Least now I won't care.

sorry this is slightly off topic but where can i find a copy of vista prem x64 with sp1. i have a version without sp1 but for how often i reinstall id much rather just have sp1 on the disk. I plan on moving vista to my raptor and getting rid of XP altogether. And also where can i find a checksum for that disk because i feel like whatever version i find will be something someone made and not a copy from microsoft.
