Might get transferred out there and don't feel like commuting from SF. Anybody know the going rates for rental homes? Looking at 5 bedrooms (have 4 other co-workers). We're going in together. For us, it's either take the transfer or get laid off.

Looking for prices/sq ft/ etc....I know there's a ton of new homes there, are those being rented out?

FYI, i looked into buying already and renting to my coworkers, but i don't have the $$$ or want the headache.

when i went up there this past weekend, traffic was horrendous. One big street that EVERYONE drives on. Traffic backed up for blocks! And there's seriously nothing to do there. At least i found a 24hour to work out.

Thanks for the info!

Elk Grove is a relatively new community. It's growing... you should buy a house there!

I did look into it. No association fees, fairly decent size homes 2500sq feet 4bd 2.5bath for ~high 3's to low 4s. And there were alot of developers. But, aside from SF and SJ folks moving there and commuting, are there new jobs opening up?

Note: i said jobs, not mcjobs ;)

Great community to live in...though traffic may be bad (along Laguna Blvd.) because of the numerous stores and restaurants. It's an 8 lane road, but traffic's heavy during rush hour. The freeway is ok, but stay away during rush hour again. My HS class was the first graduating class from Laguna Creek HS :)

Seriously.... elk grove blvd is THE WORST. The 24 hour there is brand new so that's a plus. There's a TON of housing being built over there.. 5 people? Maybe look into getting a house because it would be worth it in the end.

I live off 50, so I don't get that bad of traffic even during rush hour. :)

Sacramento is the future of California. Plenty of room for expansion of housing and businesses. Plenty of water and power. One of the few working drive-ins in the country. 90% of the polution is from vehicle exhaust and as requirements for cars become more stingent, that will no longer be an issue. Heat, however, always will be, but that's part of the city's charm. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll go up again this weekend. Anyone who just bought a place know which developer is good? I saw a bunch the other time, and quite frankly, it's very overwhelming.

Also, which side is better? Old Elk Grove area or the Bruceville area?

FYI, just changed the title since it's not just a renting thread anymore

Thanks!

I got a friend who lives in Elk Grove and he tells me that he has no water meter. My friend says that to bring up my car and wash it when I come up...
