I need to tear down my sun room. It is standard shingles, truss, basic windows, etc...

I was thinking of putting up an AD at craigslist or pick up a day laborer to help tear it up. I will haul it away so just some "breaking shit" and leave.

I will provide lunch (pizza, fried chicken, etc..) and drinks (sports drinks, soda, water type).

So what is a fair rate to offer on craigslist and/or if I went and picked up soem day workers?
I don;t want to offer to little but I am looking to do it as cheap as possible. This will take at least a week with a couple guys I guess. Maybe less?

Minor Update:

Well went to the 7-11 here in Springfield VA (off of backlick across from McDonalds for the N.VA people)
Just walked up to a bunch of guys and said $60 for the day to tear stuff up, do demo work. 1 guy tranlated and a couple hands went up but then all hell broke loose. I had 5 guiys try to get in my truck and people across the street ran over. I was ok 5 is fine but the 5th guy could not get in the cab and the others guys gave up. So 4 guys back to my place.

We had the entire thing down to the brick very quickly. Ate some chicken and gave them plenty of drinks (powerade, water, tea, etc...) then back to work. Got the brick down and made 1 run to the landfill. On the way back got a flat tire. Got that changed and got home and the trailer got a flat in my driveway.

So got lucky and plugged both and that was fixed. Loaded the trailor up and took them back to the 7-11. This was about 2pm maybe a little after. Gave each guy $60 and then gave the head guy another $20 and told him to split it between them all. They were happy (not much work lately so probable happy for anything) and then asked if I needed them tomorrow. But declined as I have my brother inlaws coming to load the old stuff in my truck and will just haul it.

So made a hugh mess, got 2 flats, ate some chicken, and the sunroom is no more. I will update a little later with a picture of the mess now.

if you're providing food, $10/hr. but i'll do it for free if you pay for airfair and lodging, breaking shit apart sounds like a fun project this weekend.

Know anyone with some high school kids? Preferably on the football team. That's what I've always done. Get a couple high school kids in there, offer free food and $10 an hour cash and they'll work there tails off for you.

I only say football team because they are typically better at breaking shit and usually have more friends they can rope into the deal.

Yea I was going to start at $50 a day plus food/drink.

I don?t need a genius, just someone to tear it up. Wish I could fool some kids into "vandalizing" it.

Damm kids destroyed my sunroom. :(

Be careful when hiring day laborers to do this kind of work. If they get hurt on your property, YOU are responsible for any medical costs. loss of wages, and you can be sued for big bux...
Find a contractor to do it...or do it yourself with some friends.

I had to take down an addition to a home that was about 16ft x 8ft with a roof. Used a sawzall to cut the main supports, then a truck + chain finished it off in one pull.

Can you draw up some kind of contract to dodge that bullet?

Yes you can.
You get them to sign a paper that they are an independent contractor and not an employee.

Good luck with that. You're still liable if the "independent contractor" doesn't carry workman's compensation insurance.
That's one of the first things I ask for when I hire a contractor to do work for me.
1) State Contractor license
2) Business license
3) Worker's Compensation Insurance.

This advice came from my insurance agent.

You come and haul it away.

lol perfect! i bet that would work too

Well that would not work to well as the sunroom is a full room attached to my house. Think of it as a full romm added on with truss's attached to the roof of the house. Then there are windows all the way around on the 3 walls. Then brick under the windows.

I agree! with the economy being so slow you can get some excellent work
done at bargain prices. I've had a new kichen floor installed, the kitchen painted, new switch plates for the lights, new shades cut and installed, 3 air conditioners brought from the store and properly installed.

my honey do list is much smaller now and there wasn't a single curse word uttered:)

If you go to Home Depot after 2pm, the guys still hanging around are desperate for the work and will happily do the job for $50 for the rest of the day.

Yea seriously just go to Home Depot. I've hired day laborers to clean a whole bunch of crap from my back yard. I gave them some water and paid them and that was that. Oh and here in Socal, if they get injured, you just tell them La Migra is coming and they won't say anything. They'll just scatter.
