No I'm not asking this for advice or to think I can live it easy with just a HS diploma, but just to see how people managed to get where they are today with a minimal education background.

I graduated PC tech school for web design (6 month course) and I'm now making 30 Grand a year which is crap. However I'll take it for entry level.

You?

There's not that much demand for guys with 2" penises. Maybe you should consider writing off one of those enlarging devices as a business expense.

You'd be surprised. Actually, I'm pushin 2.5" now. A clothespin, twine, and a small rock have done wonders. I swear I should start my email mass mailing campaign offering my secret to the masses.

I make almost $20k a year with a high school diploma, though I haven't tried anywhere worthwhile yet. I'll take it for the work I do which isn't all that difficult.

isn't it easy to make 30k(roughly $15/hr) with just HS diploma? Look at your local newspaper.. lots of administrative jobs paying $12-15 with no prior experience.

I'm not complaining though, I like my job, like the people I work with. I'm going to college part time so working anywhere else that would require more of my "brain power" would just wear me out. I've been offered a management position, but that isn't what I'm looking to do with my life. I could settle for a job from the newspaper, but settling isn't what its all about, is it? :)

I have a HS Diplomia and some Navy training and last year I made 52K I was on pace for about 60K when I got laid off as an electronics tech.

I am looking at a job job that pays about 45K BUT the benis are really nice and they help pay for school.

I will say if you have the opportunity to go to college GO.

I have been turned down for 3 jobs BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE COLLEGE in the past two weeks.

I actually had an HR lady tell me last week "You have more experence then eany of our other applicants BUT I NEED YOU to have an AA."

Without college it is MUCH HARDER. I have a freind who has less experence than me BUT he does hoave a VOC ED degree. Now my train ing was BETTER but his was TWO YEARS as opposed to my 6 months. Unfortunitly that is what employer look for.

I am looking to get a degree after being in the work force for 10 years.

I'm making mid 30s with a HS diploma, I did go to college for 2 years, but i dropped out ... I hate classes and studying.

I do work my ass off, and hopefully I'll be getting a promotion over the next 6 months or so ... I'd like to see 40 ...

PS ... Im 23 .. And I'm working for the same company that hired me part time back when I was 16 (that was my second job ever, I work in a different department now though)

If you're going into the tech industry I strongly advise a degree......I took about a year off college (after my AA before my BS) and couldn't find anything decent. The industry is so flooded the more you can do to put yourself above the others, the better. It goes pay getting a job though. Your degree will help determine how promotable you are within the company. In the ideal world it wouldn't matter, especially given the nature of our industry, but it does.

So anyway associates degree, $7 an hour doing some networking and systems administration......

I graduated proudly in the middle of the lower third of my class.

I'm doing over 100K. I've been in the biz now for 20+ years.

No college.

All you gotta do is get in on the ground floor.....

IMHO, the best option now is to do time in the military. You get some dicipline, you get paid, you get trained, and you get some bona fide experience for the resume. You also get a major kick in the college fund so you don't spend your first 20 employed years working for the school loan lender (maybe ony 10 or so).

FWIW

Then that HR lady or the people giving her the requirements are silly. How common that is I don't really know. Having a degree might affect the initial screening process before you are even considered for an interview, but the people talking to you then and those making the final decision to hire/not hire most definately couldn't care less about your degree, unless maybe they are looking for credentials (which is different from qualifications) for a director/VP level position.

Myself and others have actually been interviewing a lot of people at work lately, and degrees are not a consideration by anyone in the tech-related departments that would decide if they want you or not, but I have noticed that every resume we've gotten includes some kind of degree, some from prestigious schools, some from free colleges, but there is always something there so it would not surprise me at all if its an initial screening requirement used by HR.

Two of the companies I have worked for had CEOs who were either high school or college dropouts.
