After a massive power outage I decided that the time to get a system on batteries has come.

So here are some open questions for open answers.

Are $400 winCE systems worth the trouble?
What should I look for?
What should I avoid?

Thanks,
WW

I think the Compaq ipaq is the class of the current CE devices. Unfortunately, it's hard as heck to get. The HP Jornada and Casio devices are definitely a step below so I'd avoid those. I believe the ipaq go for around $500 so they're definitely expensive.

I have the ipaq and while it's nice, I don't think it's essential. It does integrate well with windows. I'm currently developing for it.

Oops, I guess you meant palmtop instead of handheld. Well, I guess this info doesn't help you at all. Sorry.

Palmtop, Handheld, what do I know?

What I meant was the kind that uses Win CE and have some sorta keyboard if possible.

My main concern is to have something to surf the net in case of an emergency, but not as expensive as a notepad. I'm assuming that the WinCE systems come with IE, right?

Can you surf the net with a handheld or is it mainly for scheduling stuff?

Thanks

Mainly for scheduling stuff.
As for using it to dialup, which is only good for email. forget about surfing. You'll be waiting forever for the damn thing to transit!
