Which do you prefer - Met-Rx, EAS Myoplex, or something else?

I've discovered that I like the taste of Met-Rx "Extreme Chocolate" (do they have a not-so-extreme chocolate?) - it reminds me of Nestle Quik. I'm open to other comparable products, as long as they don't taste like ass. Anyone?

Nitrotech and Designer both go down easily to me (I have an extremly high gag reflex so I'm pretty picky) If you haven't already try strawberry flavors - you can mix it with almost any type of juice if you're bored of milk or water

Grow! by Bio-test is prolly the best protein shake, but it's too rich for my blood.

I currently use Designer Whey chocolate, it kicks ass and it's pretty cheap.

Out of all i've tried, myoplex choclate is decent, but i actually enjoy the flavor of Optimum Nutrition 100% whey, chocolate mint, stuff tastes GOOD. 2 scoops, 2 cups milk

DesignerWhey GlycerLean - Chocolats flavor.

Works well with water and even better with 1% milk.

Designer is good.

But is different then Met-rx and Myoplex.

Are you wanting to know about MRPs or protein only drinks?

i'm looking more for the MRPs right now - what would be the difference, though, if i switched to something like designer whey? i.e., what's the purpose of each?

[edit] - it looks like they whey shakes don't have nearly the carbs of the mrps. maybe that wouldn't be good for me right now.

Yup, Simply Protein (Complete Whey) is great... I've tried Precision Protein as well and it's definitely tasty and works well as a protein supplement... I've only tried Chocolate since I like the "Nestle Quik" taste.
I've also tried Myoplex (ick, yuk...) and Designer in a few flavors. The Strawberry flavor Designer was pretty good, but it tends to be more expensive than the EAS products ($10 more per 5lb container!)

I buy my supplements at Vitaglo, cheaper than DPS + free shipping.
EDIT: Vitaglo is selling Simply Protein Complete Whey in 5lb jugs at $21 including the shipping. I'm trying to do my best Rossman impression here. GNC is suck!

BTW, eating eggs is still one of the best ways to get protein... it's not like soy where it'll up your estrogen, heh.

While we're on the subject of protein shakes, I may as well ask my question.

I've noticed some mixes contain an extraordinary amount of cholesterol. Is this something I should be concerned with? I decided to try a tub of Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. It has a couple more grams (22g total) of protein and only 25mg of cholesterol.

mrCide, are you happy with the Optimum Nutrition mix?

Is there any legitimate difference between the different brands?

I use Twin Lab Triple Whey Protein vanilla flavor and have had great results. I mix it with about a cup of skim milk and take it three times a day, morning, after work out, and about an hour before bed.

I drink pure whey protein and get whatever is cheapest. I recently scored a 5lb tub of EAS chocholate for $29. That stuff is GOOD. I mean it's really tastey, even with water, if you mix with a high enough ratio of protein:water. I opened a tub of designer yesterday. french vanilla is rather yucky, but designer is a great brand. Optimum nutrition ice cream vanilla is very tastey. NEVER EVER. PLEASE. NEVER get optimum nutrition strawberry. It's so disgusting in taste. It's a chemical bath.

Anyway you could be concerned with cholesterol but it depends how much you consume. Designer has a new bar called Next Up. It's like a chocholate bar but high in protein and has 100 mg of cholesterol (around 1/3 daily recommended dosage). Most powders aren't too bad, but that bar was bad (tasted good though). MetRx bars are very high in quality and fairly low in cholesterol (if you're into bars - which are nice, but a lot more expensive than pure protein).

In regards to MRPs I haven't really tried any in a while although myoplex gets a lot of recognition - probably because the body for life.

these guys always have EAS stuff on sale, good shipping and service

anyway, i'm very happy with the optimum nutrition, the chocolate mint is lovely. the strawberry is gross. :) there's a difference, some are 'better' than others, but i really don't care enough to be picky.

amused, just some little info, it's good to not drink a shake before bed since your body takes care of whey/shakes quick, try eating steak/meat/chicken/regular meal with protein, itll digest slowly throughout the night (if you're picky).. take it or leave it :)

I'm of the same opinion - I get whey in the morning for quick absorption after such a long break but ideally I Have tuna before bed. Of course much of the time i'm too lazy and just shake up some whey anyway because it's quick and painless.

Oops. :frown: Yea, it's not that good. But it isn't very difficult to down a scoop or 2 a day.

I'm trying to avoid protein bars - primarily because of cost. A while back, I bought a tub of GNC protein mix without really looking carefully at the nutrition facts (I was a newbie). It had 90mg of cholesterol per scoop!:Q

Thier vanilla ice cream flavor is good as well, gotta mix it with 2% milk tho, it is nasty with skim.

I finished one up the other day and was doing it with water to finish. Needless to say I mix and gun it down real quick :D

Well, the basic idea is to get some protein into your system so you don't go catabolic... I personally just use that protein drink late at night with a snack to boost the carb and protein levels just before I go to sleep. Not sure if your body works fast enough when you're asleep to make absorption a factor though. I just have some eggs in the morning since it's quick and easy.

Does anyone know of a good/decent tasting shake that has <10g of carbs ?

I currently take met-rx but it has 22g of carbs which is tough while currently being on a ketosis diet.

eas has myoplex lite. Not sure of the carb composition but I think it's really low.

I'm trying to avoid the protein bars as well, they have some that are pretty good tasting, but they all have too much saturated fat IMO, I found one at GNC that had like 1g of sat fat, but was 2.99 a bar and they didn't have anything but peaches and silk (Like I am gonna eat Peaches and Silk in front of anyone heh)
