I'm turning 26 in a week. I'm not talking about feeling old as in getting sad/depressed/etc. I'm actually talking about your mindset and body.

Mindset:
I remember JUST last year I would go out and hit the clubs with friends. A female friend would call me up to drink at 11pm on a weekday and I would go have few drinks, come back by 2am and go to work at 7:30am.

I would go out all the time. Not only that, I had that EAGERNESS to go out all the time, despite being tired.

Now, I'm just lazy and finding myself staying in more. I'd rather grab a good book/movie and stay home or just play games. When I do go out and find myself not having fun, I just think about how nice it would be to be in bed at home. Clubs don't interest me anymore. I just think about loud music ringing my ears and overpriced drinks that piss me off.

Body:
You know how you feel invincible health-wise when you're young? Yup I was just one of them....just until this year. This year I developed a heartburn and I can't enjoy spicey food anymore as much. I can't even drink wine as it now burns my esophogus.

Last winter, I came down with this scary scary flu. My body had this uncontrollable shake and I was COLD even in my 80 degrees room with electric blanket turned on to max. We all had our cold and flus but I never had it this bad. For the first time I felt like my invulnerable health was chipping away.

What's going on? Anyone feel the same as of late? And so suddenly?

go see a doc about your acid reflux - there are meds for it :)

not trying to sound like a dick, but you are not that bad off. you are lucky you only have the very minor problem you have (unless you have throat cancer or something horrible like that). just remember, there are millions of people that feel much worse than you do every day and still get up and get moving. sounds like you are getting depressed.

also, unless you keep up the exercise you will not make as much mood altering chemicals that keep you balance, like serotonin, so maybe that has to do w/ your feelings.

as for me, i have more than a couple severe neurological issues, i am in pain 24/7, in the morning i can barely move (seriously) as i have to stretch for 20+mins just to get moving, old injuries hurt like a muthafucka. i had neurosurgery in my spine (tumor removal form inside the spinal canal) a year ago but the long term effects just stay - like now, i am always cold, and when i get the shakes, my legs literally lock up - i can't move, intense burning down my legs - but on the flip side a friend of mine had the same surgery i did and he is now basically paralyzed and has spinal/brain cancer. so yeah, i feel like shit most of the time and get maybe 1-2 days a year when i actually wake up and feel good - i cherish those days.

this may sound horrible, but when i feel really bad, i will go to a mall, because there is always somebody more f*cked up than i am there and if they can do it so can i.

I am so sorry to hear that and feel terrible for sounding like a dick. I wasn't just taking my health for granted, I was using that as an example of how I start to feel so suddenly old.

I started feeling old when I got past 40. The body's just not the same any more, not as tough and resilient as it had been.

I'll be turning 30 in February, and a few days after that I'm expecting the birth of our first child.

If that doesn't make you feel like you've transcended a new level in the game of life I don't know what will. :p

As for my brain, I'm 30 going on 13. I like boobs and video games more than ever. :D

My body is starting to get a little grouchy though. I wake up just hurting some days for no real reason. I get a hangover after a few beers. Plus when I work out it's WAY easier to tweak something and when I do, it's a lot longer of a recovery.

Around the age of 26, I also started getting severe heartburn. I suggest you goto a doctor and have them do an upper endoscopy to ensure you dont have anything worse than GERD. I waited too long and have barrett's esophagus, which can become cancerous later down the line. I'm sure you're ok, but its just a precautionary thing.

Oh, and I turn 30 in 16 days.

i've found the more one tries to fight cold the more it affects you. maybe because the body stops heating itself. in a moderatly cold weather wearing too many warm clothes makes me feel colder.

second reply:

I'm 25 - 26 in june, so like 6 mos. younger than you. my body is that of a 40 year old man.

* i never want to go out on the weekends - this is coming from the same me who would go out 6 nights a week when i was 23-24 - problematic when all my boys go out 3 nights a week still. im starting to not care any more about that

* when i drink, i need 2 days to recover (i used to be able to go back at it that next noon)

* just wait for the sneeze that hurts your body - if you haven't gotten one yet - you will - and if you think im crazy, just wait

* i played tackle football 2 weeks ago - it took me 4 days to be able to walk without feeling like my quads were going to split open. and i was lettered in 3 sports in hs. (hockey (center), baseball (CF/SS/RP), tennis (singles))

just wait ;)

I'm 37 and in the best shape of my life. I still feel like I'm 19. There are a couple of things I've noticed, though:

-It's slightly harder to maintain my weight. I used to be able to shed pounds at will. Now it takes a little effort. The real change might be that I actually pay attention to my weight nowadays.
-My sex drive has gone down from 11 to 9 1/2. In other words, if a good football game is on tv, my wife has to use her powers of persuasion to get me to go upstairs.

Married, Kids... sometimes you're just too tired and don't feel like it.

Pfft, when you're in a relationship, sex becomes overrated since you can get it anytime. I'm 25 now with a stable GF and even I sometimes certainly choose other things over poon. I once turned my GF away over counterstrike once.

I'm 27 and was rear ended about two years ago to the month and ever since then and rehad for my back, medications, etc... I feel old physically now.

Simple things that I'd never have thought would be an issue are a problem now.

Like standing at the kitchen sink to do dishes hurts my lower back.

Walking on hard surfaces (IE: Mall flooring) hurts my back.

Trying to sleep is a whole other issue now with back pains.

So yeah, I feel old :(

Sadly I'll probably have this back pain for the rest of my life just because someone wasn't paying attention in stop and go traffic.
