I used to play in college. I'm 27 almost 28 now.

After I graduated there weren't any men's teams near where I lived in Southern California, so I haven't played actively in ~6 years or so. I recently moved up to Federal Way, WA, though, and I found a local men's club down in Tacoma.

I actually played in their 2nd-side game after the 1st-side match last Saturday. I had a blast, even though I came away with a bruised rib that still hurts. I was wearing one guy's boots, another guys socks, still another guy's shorts... and it was POURING rain. I was absolutely COVERED in mud at the end.

Tonight is my first full training session with the team and I'm looking forward to it. We have another match this Saturday and I really hope this rib will stop hurting.

Since there will likely be very few people that actually play, we can also use this thread to discuss the basics rules of rugby, if any of you are curious. Average Americans don't really understand the game, I've found. Once it's understood, though, the game is really fun to watch and play.

Cliffs:

1.) Play rugby.
2.) ????
3.) Profit.

i played in high school, junior and senior year. i loved every minute of it. i was a loose prop at 230lbs, so size was always on my side, especially in high school.

rugby is a blast to play...more than football imo (i was on the football team also). painful, but fun.

Awesome. In college I played 2nd row. I'm tall (6'2" ~200lbs) and I also jumped in the line-outs. Last Saturday they put me at 8-man for the 1st 20 minutes and then I played flanker for the rest of the time.

I didn't really get to lay any good hits because the muddy field wouldn't let me dig in or change directions quickly. We had some messy rucks though, and our scrums were blowing theirs away. :)

I used to play it a couple of years ago, used to love it, we had such a good team and most of us were friends before we joined the team so we used to have a really good time!

I used to play left wing or outside center because i'm a sprinter so i'm fast and muscular...

I wish we could get the same team together again.

my 2nd row guy was really good, which made the experience that much better. he was fast, strong, and big...i was stronger and bigger, not but as fast, so we made a pretty good rocket. we were 18-0 for those 2 years, with 765 points scored and 15 scored on us. often times we would pull out the A team after 15-20 points so we wouldnt run up the score.

i always had a good time with lineouts because we had so many trick plays. of course, being a prop, i always had to lift whoever was setup to catch, which means i often got kicked in the nuts or kneed in the face. that is the ONLY part of rugby i dont miss, but id take a little of that all over again to be a part of that team right now. like Jahee, i was friends with most of the guys since 6th or 7th grade, and we played baseball, football, and basketball together on the school and travel teams.

Played one year in high school. I think I am much fitter for it. Totally sucked at it though; my younger brother is the athletic one. He played Fullback. I remember a period of time when he was playing with a chest cast due to broken clavicle. I played Inside Centre or on some occasions Open Flanker.
