Maryland is only a 3 hour drive south of where I live now. I've been looking at the types of jobs in PA and around the US, and I noticed that MD often has IT Security jobs - which is what I'm aiming for. It looks like the cost of real estate would crush me though. If you live in that state, how do you manage?

I live in Alexandria, VA. I do NOT have a degree. I have an A+ cert but that is it. I get paid 65k a year in an entry level position.

Also, do not, i repeat DO NOT move to Prince George County.

The jobs pay well in MD, because many are government or government contractor jobs.

I manage because I bought a house just before house prices went nuts.

What about Rosedale... I'm seeing some nice affordable houses there, but I have no clue about this state and what to avoid.

i'm from PG county and can say that yeah some areas are pretty shady, but there are areas that are also very peaceful. Montpelier is where I reside and is a nice, quiet neighborhood. Montgomery county is not as nice as everyone is making it out to be...Montgomery mall had some lady shanking people (albeit this lady may have been a resident of PG county :p) when she couldn't return something and a few shootings in that surrounding area.

there are no affordable houses in the DC area. If you find one it is for a reason. Probably no one wants to live there.

The better paying jobs are in DC, Northern VA, Bethesda, and Columbia

yea i live in maryland, but i'm still living w/my mom. i just graduated last may and am working fulltime now, saving to probably purchase something next may or so. i live in montgomery county right now, which is getting ridiculously expensive. if i buy around here, i might live in columbia (where I work) because houses are much cheaper around here.

i might move to florida thogh to get the hell out of this area. i'm sick of this area.

real estate here is pretty damn pricey but if you can get a nice IT job in like bethesda, rockville i.e. the business districts you should be able to afford a reasonable place. I'd recommend looking for an apartment, houses right now are hella pricey.

I'm looking at in Fredricksburg or Stafford next year. Prices aren't too bad and slugging to work sounds pretty easy.

Well I'm thinking that $250,000 is considered affordable in the area, when the rest are over $300,000...

250,000 might be able to get you a 1 bedroom condo.
