Anybody here have experience with a Toshiba LED TV?

It's hard to say. As a second, small-room HDTV for "mother," I had considered a 24" Toshiba 1080p LED_LCD. It was supposed to have "tinny" sound, but I had planned to connect a 2.1 PC speaker system through the 3.5mm phone plug on the TV. Even so, we settled for a slightly less expensive model by another manufacturer.

I had a Toshiba TV way back when -- and long before LCD. It served me well for years. These days, LG and Samsung are the two biggest TV makers.

And retail outlets and resellers are constantly turning over new models and attempting to push older inventory out the door. That may explain the bargain price. I got my LG (everything but "3D") for a good markdown, and I'm happier than a pig in poop.

Every time you spend money, there is a risk -- an uncertainty -- that the item won't meet your expectations, that it's defective, that it "isn't up to snuff" in some way. I was lucky with my LG 42" -- ordered online. The classical and prevailing wisdom is that you would select something like a TV, surround speakers or AV-receiver by going to a place like "Circuit City" or "Best Buy" where there is a listening and viewing room.

You will find more bargains and if you shop slowly and deliberately without compromise, you will get your money's worth.

Just bought a 40 inch LED tv toshiba 40pu200 with full movie support through USB. I was enticed to go Toshiba since this is an old brand for as long as I can remember. First week, it worked well, then an issue started to show. When the unit is on standby mode, and when a USB storage (either HDD or flash drive) is plugged, the unit will die down, completely shutdown with the red LED light turning off. As if it's not turned on. To turn it back on (to standby mode), i had to unplug first the USB then completely power cycle the unit. It made no sense, because whenever I had to watch a movie from USB source, and just before I sleep, i had to go to the unit unplug the USB first before I can put the TV back on standby, otherwise, it will again completely shutdown.

I discovered this a little too late. I was given a week to return the unit for a complete replacement. I discovered this glitch after about 2 weeks, when I started to notice the inconvenience I had to go through when I am watching directly from USB source. I reported this to the store, they referred me to the service center. The service center told me that it was a normal operation, that I had to unplug the USB before putting the unit to standby.

So I went back to the store, asked the sales rep to plug the USB storage I had with me, turn the unit to standby, it didnt die! i did another HDD, and again IT DIDNT DIE!

To cut the chase, now my TV is 3 months old, they flashed firmware, replaced the main board panel, and still had the same issues, my unit is up for replacement (still pending approval from Toshiba Philippines can you believe that?). But hopefully the replacement unit will not show this issue.

My recommendation?
STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRAND! The unit sucks, the service sucks even better!

What I have found with Toshibas is that the picture is excellent. The built in speakers just sound horrible. A soundbar or AV receiver can fix that tho.

I have three Toshiba LCDs but the newest model is MY2009 so I can't be of much help with recent model experience. For the past, mine have never exhibited any issues, one is a 32" 60hz, one is a 46" 120hz and one is a 55" local dimming LED backlit 240hz tv. They've all been great.

I bought a 50" Toshiba LED tv for my in-laws for Christmas and it has been great. It really has a good picture. Skin tones and all that. The only thing is it is not a smart tv so it doesn't have all the features that go with being a smart tv. They love it.
