Hi,

Anybody has the NEC 2510. Is it as good an silent as the 2500?

Also, which software already supports this burner, since its a new model? Does Nero 6 support it cause the burner isn't yet in the supported burners list?!

Also, is Nero 6 also the best choice for DVD writing or is other software recommended for this? I am new to burning CD/DVD, so thanks for all good suggestions. But ofcourse the software needs to support the 2510, otherwise I can't do much with it I suppose.

I bought 2500 first, then quickly replaced it with 2510. TO me price difference justified additional capability.

From what I heard inside 2500 and 2510 are the same, but 2510 is better calibrated. This extra calibration is needed to properly write dual layer disks (there was some commend from NEC about this). It seems to work just the same as 2500. I burn disks with Nero just fine. When you select to burn DVD NERO shows capcity at 9G, even though all my disks are sinlge layer.

I have not tried dual layer disks and probaly will not for at least half a year. Dual media is just too expensive. I've heard that it might be more then twise as expensive as single layer for a while (if not ever).

Thanks for the reply! Isn't it so that the 2510 is a different model compared to the 2500, like that it has a different laser, etc.. in order to burn those dual layer discs?! Does Nero 6 recognize it, cause it isn't in the supported list yet and I don't know if they have released an update to support this model?! How does that work?

Also, what's the official site of this burner where you can download the latest firmware, etc..

If you go to their website for the USA/Canada and try to find drivers, it tells you, "Our drives are sold directly to computer manufacuters. Please contact the company that sold you the drive for drivers, firmware and support." But if you follow the link for "Germany (English)," you'll see that they'll sell the 2510 retail there "end of june 2004."

Hopefully we'll be able to get firmware updates there once they're available. For now they have nice PDF files of a datasheet, user manual, and best of all a list of supported media.

Here are the direct links:
