Anybody here got Wizardry 8?

Mem

I`ve just ordered Wizardry 8 since I`ve now finished Gothic and was wondering what`s the verdict on Wizardry 8 do you like it so far?

🙂

I am waiting for this game here in Taiwan. The last time I played W7 is still DOS age. I was just a student. Those old days.

Can't wait to play W8. I have a super team waiting to be transfer to new advantage.

I've played the demo and really liked it. Reviewers on both Gamespot and PC Game Review are giving it high scores. Many say it's the best RPG they've ever played. What bothers me is that Sir Tech decided to only sell it through EB, and I'll have buy it online (if I want it) since the nearest EB is 90 miles from where I live.

They didn't have a choice -- the big US publishers wouldn't distribute it since it's a "niche product" and the publishers want big hits.

By the way, Sir-Tech's Jagged Alliance 2 is a great tactical combat game like X-Com & Fallout Tactics, and EB has it for $7.99.

Wizardry 1,2,3 were mind blowing in their day. I hope Wizardry 8 is a success so that we can see more Sir Tech titles

actually surprisingly many people wanted to publish it, but the problem was that the developer wanted a long term multi-game deal that no one wanted to give them. They wanted a deal that virtually no one gets besides id, which is why no one published it. in the end it was the stockholders who voted to have it done finally at EB (at probably a lot less than they were offered earlier). so really the reason that this wasn't published via a traditional publisher is the developers unrealistic expectations.

re: the game, it's excellent!

unfortunatley sir-tech is closing up so this is most probably the last game made by Sir-Tech. Wiz1 is being redone for the PS2 by a japanese developer though.

i played it for a little while, but the controls are way to wacky for me

graphics are nice, sound is good

good to see so many different races and classes

true wizardry fans should love it... it's just not for me tho

I hope you don't feel game developers should just drop their pants, bend over and let the publishers have their way with them. :disgust:

of course not, there is a median in between. we lost a good developer here though for no reason IMO, and this time it really wasn't a publisher's fault. normally i agree the publishers take adv of the developers. but now sir-tech is closing, there will not be another title, and they are not getting the distribution they could have (or doubtlessly the long-term returns).

From all I read all Sir-Tech wanted was decent compensation for their team. That should not have been hard given the quality of W8.

Dude, the reason they wanted the long term deal is because they were trying to save their company.

A regular deal wouldn't have done anything for them.

Also, I believe it will be available from other locations after 90 days or something like that.
