There have been a lot of skunks around my house lately. I'm afriad I'll get sprayed soon, since i've already run into a few of them. They scared the hell out of me by turning around and pointing their asses up in the air at me. :( Anybody ever experience the wrath of a skunk?

Spray the area around your house with vinegar.
If you happen to get sprayed,be prepared to buy a case of tomatoes ;)

Yep, bathe in tomato juice when it happens!

even tomato juice doesn't take away the smell for a while. my roommate's gf's dog got sprayed by a skunk once. the smell on the dog lasted about 3-4 weeks.

The stanky buggers are out here around the landscaping on hwy.280. At times it'll choke ya to death driving by. Why don't the enviro wacko's do something about those smelly stankers??

Couple of years ago, my dog and I had the unfortunate experience of being slimed by a skunk. Gives life an entirely new meaning. ;)

The effectiveness of tomato juice in such a case is a myth as some here have indicated. Start with vinegar as it works well in neutralizing the oder. Then use dish soap or a good liquid hand soap to remove the spray. Finally, take a very good shower afterwards.

You can probably find an organization in your area such as the humane society that will remove the skunks for you. If your dwelling is built up above ground, the skunks have probably established a den down below. More than likely, they are just foraging around for food when you chance upon them. BTW, Skunks are typically shy and eat lots of pests such as rats and roaches. You can more or less exist with them if you are careful. When Skunks feel threatened, they spray.

My dog rushed a skunk once and caught a blast of skunk spray in the face. His eyes were all messed up, it was like tear gas. Even after like 6 washings w/that special shampoo, he still smelled like skunk. The skunk was so close that my dogs fur was matted down from the spray.

My brothers two dogs chased down a skunk and killed it two days ago. My sister-in-law used baking soda and peroxide and washed them down good with that. The smell was gone....

2 German shepards vs. a little skunk = one stenchy messed up backyard!

No, but I have run into one. I was on a walk and saw an animal which I thought was a bunny. Luckily I realized my mistake in time to avoid anything nasty.

Haven't been sprayed, but there were a lot of them at our house in previous summers. They prefer to run but if they get scared then they will spray, so I tried to make sufficient noise when I went out (esp in evening/at night) so they wouldn't be startled by me suddenly appearing.

Thanks for all the tips. The Los Angeles County animal control is making us actually catch the skunk in a cage before, and then they'll come and spray it with some stuff to kill it. I couldn't find any other organizations that would actually come and take them away. We've set a cage trap, but they won't go near it. We put peanut butter, smelly salami, and all kinds of crap, but for some reason they aren't interested. I'm tired of them scaring the sh!t out of me when i come home at night.

What a coincidence - I just returned home to my two doggies REEKING of skunk-stink. We apparently have a skunk that likes to wander through our backyard. This happened a fvcking week ago, and you'd think that the first spray would have firmly planted an aversion in the heads of my dogs - but Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.
