it seems like they have a really good bank, at least on paper. a free checking acct. w/ no mimimum balance, first stash of checks free, free atm or check card, 1.3% interest on the checking acct., $50 sign-up bonus, plenty of ATM locations, online services available........just too good. i am looking for a new bank and this one's giving me everything i'd want. it's just that i've never heard of it.

i was just wondering if anybody's ever had an account with them, and/or any positive/negative experiences w/ them?

any other suggestions for good banks? i had read a review about some of the best banks in the country, and i believe it said washington mutual was the best, although it was so long ago that i don't remember much.

I use Netbank as my bank. I really haven't had any problems with them. Their money market and checking account rates were some of the best until Greenspan started dropping the interest rates. Now they're 'eh' but still better than most.

The two hang-ups with using them is ATM access and if you need to make a deposit. To get money out, you'll either have to pay a transaction fee and get Netbank to reimburse you (hassle and they only do it a couple of times a month) or get your money out at a store or find an ATM that doesn't charge a fee.

For deposits, you have to mail in your deposit slip and check. It can take almost a week for your money to show up in your account this way. Fortunately, I work only a couple of miles from the Netbank corporate office in Atlanta so I'm able to drive over there and make most of my deposits.

Wamu has been getting rave reviews from people who I work with though.

I have a MMA with them. They do offer great interest rates. I'm sure you can ACH money into the account. I know I ACH money from that into my investment account, so Im sure it goes both ways.

I have a local bank for my checking account and my paychecks go there. The MMA is just for the better than average interest. I've been with them for around 2 years and have had no problems. I used to have a checking account with them too, but the atm inconvenience made my cancel it. I believe that you can use any credit union atms and you wont get charged a fee.

They're two different types of banks, Netbank.com is an INTERNET only bank where as Washington Mutual has physical branches.

I've used Netbank as my second bank for a number of years, for the same reason as everyone else, awesome interest rates. I used to mail checks to my home bank when I was at college, so the mailing checks was no big deal. Plus, for regular work checks there's direct deposit. I've found a couple of no-fee ATMs, which helps, though I don't use the account too often.

If you use a fee-free atm (like publix atms) there's no charge.

I liked netbank with the exception of having to deposit physical checks.
