Anybody have basic comcast cable + HD receiver?

Just picked up a Motorola DCT 6200 & am enjoying HD via cable.

My only question is I seem to be getting a lot of stuff I shouldn't be...

HBO & Showtime for example (non HD), & music channels. There are plenty of channels that I shouldn't be getting that I'm NOT getting (mainly premium HD & adult channels) but there's lots of stuff that I don't think I should be getting.

I haven't done anything out of the ordinary, I just hooked everything up. My cable bill (not including broadband) is $15.02 ($9.03 for basic cable + $5.99 for HD receiver).

Is this normal?

When I had my HD receiver replaced by Comcast on a Friday, I was able to receive every channel for free on Saturday and Sunday. I think it takes them a bit of time to "update" the box with the proper channel info.

So what's available & not available is determined by data sent to the receiver?

Seems to me that would leave a lot of room for abuse.

I guess I'll just wait & see what happens. I'd be perfectly happy with the extra HD stuff I picked up with the box.

😉

Not getting any porn (that I know of anyway).

Mainly lots of premium SD + music that I don't think should be there.

Yeah, it'll be fixed, probably tonight sometime....maybe tomorrow.

When a tech does a hookup, it generally gets called in and the "hit" sent to the box right then. Self hookups will take a little bit until the paperwork gets processed. When the box is added to the account it will get a signal sent, (may have already happened), and then it will again when it finally gets an answer from your box. This will set the proper programming in the boxes memory.

There really isn't much in the way of tampering with it that you can do, it's encrypted (and if I remember right, it is constantly updating the signature [like many times a second] to pretty much foil any attempts at defeating it).

The boxes get polled every night, if it doesn't answer for like 10 days straight it gets listed as a non-responder, which results in them calling to get it fixed (This can also happen if the signal pooey too).

It was that way when I first got my comcast cable hooked up. I've got the DCT5100. A few hours later, I didn't have any premium channels.
