I lived with all Ikea stuff in Holland for 4 months. Personally, i loved it. Fantastic prices and the stuff just looks great. Pretty good build quality as well IMO.

Yes, i agree, ikea stuff is quality stuff, actually, it isn't THAT cheap, but you do get more than you pay for IMO... if you can use a screwdriver, go for it...

Overall I think the quality is pretty good especially for the price.

It's great as "disposable" furniture in that it will last you a long time with normal use, but don't try moving it because the stuff breaks, or at least most of it.

That being said, there are exceptions. I have a queen bed with wooden frame that's lasted me 3 years and 2 moves. I have a great work table that's lasted a while too.

I'm exactly the opposite of this. Build quality is very poor (especially the wood products). If you look at the display models they are seperating and feel flimsy. (Virtually none of their products are made out of real wood... all corrugated board.) Costs therefore are overpriced.... There are some very cheap products there which are pretty good bargains, but still cheap in quality I say.... I have a few Ikea items, but nothing of importance... a stand, a side table.. all less than $20 items. In fact, one of them already has a hole in them... the table was hollow inside.

unfortunately, ikea is the only game in town when it comes to cheap, easily accessible furniture (regardless of looks), outside of getting it used. if anyone knows of anything else though, please post it here

When I lived in England Ikea was good value for money. In the US I was surprised to see how overpriced they are for the same products. I guess its 'what the market will bear!' So I can understand your confusion.

I love Ikea! My wife and I drove all the way from Louisville, KY to Chicago to purchase several furniture items, and so did several of our friends. Their stuff is unique, unlike anything you'll find at you typical furniture store, not to mention reasonablty priced and well made.

its good for the price. i try to buy their stuff with a reasonable amount of real wood:) the alan wrench is murderon your hand though. their stuff is def better then target/walmart cr@p. the fake veneer is of higher quality haha:)

stuff is generally very practical which is good for us nerdy types:) i love my super tall benno media towers. much better then those short pathetic cd/dvd towers u get from others stores. why waste space when u can go way up eh? very stable too.

flourecent lights are cheap too.

Don't buy it!
First you'll blow your apartment up.
Then you'll start imagining friends.
Then you'll start beating yourself up.
Pretty soon you'll be getting bunches of men to blow up credit card company buildings for you.

Erm... On second thought, buy Ikea, lots and lots of Ikea.
:D

I got the "moment "workdesk...made of metal and frosted glass top..for $200 it is ideal for me, shelves underneath hold 2 towers on the left and my printer and scanner on the right..2 monitors on top with plenty room for speakers, keyboards...even textbooks for studying. I love it! Plus it's on wheels! went together in about 5 minutes and is sturdy..highly recommended.http://www.ikea-usa.com/product_presentation/show.asp?productnumber=58091400&type=ART&id=434,433http://media.ikea-usa.com/product_images/PE038980.JPG

another place to look is scandinavian designs. http://www.scandinaviandesigns.com/
