The g/f's work laptop has started doing this (seemingly at random, though I'm sure it's not really random) & she + her IT department can't figure out what's causing it. It looks to me to be some sort of wannabe Vista windows management feature, but I've never seen it before. Unfortunately she can't get a screenshot, so I had her take a picture - It's not pretty but it shows the general idea:

Windows XP x86 on a Latitude D830, Office 2007, beyond that I don't know much about what she has on it.

Makes perfect sense, any idea what the feature is called so I can tell her to disable it?

I gave her one of the Presenter 8000 mice so I guess this is partly my fault...

Instant Viewer. It should be linked to a button on the mouse, which you can adjust using the Intellipoint utility.

The IT department couldn't get that figured out? Sheesh, maybe I'm selling myself short. I might be able to have a career in IT after all

IT department might have been a bit of an over-statement... It's a small company, IT department = 1 guy.

;)

I've told her to watch where her fingers are on the mouse, & if it continues to be a problem I'll disable it for her.

Thanks for the help guys, I knew someone would recognize it.

why does everyone think an IT guy should know it all? You know how many times people at work ask me "do you know anything about excel?" I say no and then they jokingly say "and you're our IT guy?" Then I say, yea I'm more concern with our domain and unix boxes, excel doesnt run our infrastructure.

 There are IT guys, then there are data entry guys, then there are blah blah blah. I don't know why people wrap it all up in one big package.

It's like people installing Winamp without permission and then asking us how to make a plug-in work.

Somebody ships a battery to the office intended for a certain office, say mechanical electrical(I work at an engineering company), and when they have no idea it lands on our IT office. Because a battery with no labels on it means something to us.

Idiots.

I won't argue the Excel part, but come on... A quick look in Task Manager would have pointed out the culprit I'm sure. If nothing else you just start quitting process' until the windows disappear.
