So I was watching this thing about "ionic" air purifier from sharper Image. does anybody have an air purifier?? Do they work well? I mean, it says that it helps w/ the house w/ allergens and dirt and stuff, but does anyone ever notice a difference?? I mean, does the house smell better or something??

any body have comments?

Consumer Reports rated the Ionic Breeze the worst air purifer that you can buy, regardless of cost. Plus, it removes pollutants from the air and replaces them with ozone. That is not exactly an improvement.

Since you have to pay for their web site, you'll just have to trust me on this one. Buy yourself a good HEPA filter for a hundred bucks at Sam's and you're much better off than with the Ionic Breeze.

But... but... the commercial is so convincing!

She has an Ionic Breeze?

I'd like to have one (or another airfilter) in my room when I sleep, or by my computer when I'm on it. I think I would like to have some fresh air, and now I'm curious.

the reason I'm wondering is that I usually dont really have allergies or any problems, but if I buy one, will I see or feel a difference??

It's just the idea of "clean air" and I dont know if I need it.

I had an ionic breeze for a couple days and it didn't help with my allergies. All it did was make the air smell like ozone.

I jacked my brother's Ionic Breeze, and I think it's great. It has significantly reduced or eliminated odors from my room.
As for air purification, I don't have any numbers, but looking at the filter grid, it has alot of dust on it after awhile.

i have a honewell, not sure on the model, but its pretty good, cleans up alot of dust and my gf doesnt wake up w/ a sore throat anymore...its pretty big and noisy on high, i leave it on low most of the time..

i read the consumer reports about the ionic breeze from sharper image, it basically didnt score at all it was so bad

I don't know about the effectiveness of Ionic Breeze, but what I do know is HEPA filters with a fan makes fan noise and that is one thing I don't want to listen to when I sleep.

Anything beside Ionic Breeze that is fanless?

I cannot conceive of an effective air cleaner that does not MOVE volumes of air. I suppose if there's another mechanism of circulating the air, then it may become effective, but ionic breeze by itself? Maybe in a closet.
