A co-worker of mine asked if I could help him with his old PC. He just bought a new notebook with Vista but wanted to use his old desktop for some photo-editing on XP. He told me that the desktop was filled with junk and erorr messages (and probably viruses) and he wanted to reformat.

However he lost the CDs that came with the PC. He has the cd key on the side of the computer so I was wondering if anyone had a OEM XP CD or similar that I could download off of you. I have Nero so if you have them as disk images thats fine.

Thanks in advance!

Worst-case scenario, he can buy a new OEM WinXP Home for about $85. In light of rule #3 of the AnandTech Forum guidelines, and since it is a violation of the Windows license agreement to transfer Microsoft's software in the requested fashion, this thread is being locked.

It would be better for him to contact HP with the Key and serial number of the system.
Pay the $10-20 and consider it a lesson learned.

He did. HP said they no longer manufacture the system restore CDs. Thats why he came to me. Its an older computer - think he got it in 1999
