Nope. I talk to my parents several times a week. My grandparents too.

I can't begin to grasp the idea of not talking to your parents, would any of you care to share the stories as to how this relationship between your parents came to be?

Nobody will understand until they've walked in another person's shoes I don't think these situations can be properly described in words. It seems like the people who have done it don't regret it or attempt or want to solve it. I'm sure some people are so different that it can't be solved, I was just pondering

My mother has spent her whole adult life expecting other people to do the things she's too lazy to do for herself. My father finally left her, and in order to get along with her, I have to have to sever all ties to him. No Switzerland for j00!! She's also cut off her father, sister, and brother, who I see regularly.

OTOH, she got my brothers. :(

My older brother and father haven't spoken in years. I don't blame my brother at all. Good for him.

My Dad hated my brother all his life just because he was a below-average-to-average student. That's it. Nothing else. He was never good at studies and that was reason enough for my Dad to hate him like he was the Anti-Christ.

My wife didn't speak to her mother for about 3 years. Her mother died before they could reconcile.
IMO, they were both at fault in the rift, and while I understood my wife's point, I believed SHE should have made the attempt.
Now that her mom is gone, she wished she had.
(regrets, we've had a few...)

I haven't spoken to my father in 5 years. Not due to a strained relationship, but due to his death.

I realize some parents are awful and some children are better off not communicating with them, but sometimes it's worth the effort to reconcile, forgive and forget, while you have the chance.
