Yes I have a couple. A Proteus that I've had for about 10 years and I recently picked up the one you linked to. Love them, they are very well made.

I've got a green/khaki Fatboy Versipack, though I don't use it too much. Built like a fucking tank, as is the Maxpedition way. Their stuff is expensive as hell but it's quality.

Oh, and I have one of their dump pouches but I doubt you're interested in that.

These seem like fancy man purses. Have backpacks gone out of style? I honestly dont know.

I have one of their sling bags and it's built like a tank compared to other bags I've had. I recommend them.

would you drive a tractor trailer to pick up a lawn chair?

basically why wear/carry something bigger/heavier than you need?

I have a medium lc-1 combat pack, and it's compact, but can hold a lot if necessary. Wear it over one shoulder, or both for long treks. I paid $15 for it at a thrift shop.

If I were spending real money on a bag, oiled canvas is much nicer looking, and they get better looking with age.

I would just pick up the lawn chair and move it. Most people in this office just carry their laptops around from meeting to meeting, and most drive in or take the commuter buses/shuttles.

One medium size backpack seems sufficient for whatever these bags are needed for, and more. Maybe I am missing something, but even my simple 10+ year old backpack can compress down to something as flat as a laptop, but can carry a laptop, tablet, phone, drink, meal and have enough space left over for light grocery shopping or a jacket. Good for overnight trips too. And to be honest, the ones linked in the OP look like camera bags. And there is more padding than what you see on a woman's purse. Again, I'm not particularly up on fashion trends so I dont know if backpacks are simply out of fashion and these man purses are the in thing, or if there is some functional reason behind it.

You've got to be kidding. For starters there's all manner of backpack sizes. That thing is easily as big as a lot of backpacks. In fact that's all those really are, is backpacks with a single longer shoulder sling instead of two.

If I'm not mistaken carrying things asymmetrically like that is also prone to causing issues.

they also make backpacks.

I was just wondering if this style of bag is being used for some reason other than fashion. Seems awfully expensive for something less versatile than a backpack, but I dont know whats fashionable these days.
