Anybody got any movies I should see?

I was just reading the "American History X" thread, and it seems like people really liked it, so I wrote down the title, and maybe I'll see it soon.

But I was thinking that others might have interesting movies that they'd recommend. You know, the movie you saw and said to yourself, "That was a GOOD movie!" I can't really remember any too recently, although I just saw "We're No Angels." I know, sounds stupid, but it's an (old) interesting comedy that surprised me in its approach, especially for when it was made. So, any suggestions?

PS - Llamas, please refrain from recommending anything like Event Horizon, Playboy's Wet 'n Wild Fantasies, or any of that crap. :)

maybe i'm a sap, but pleasentville was a really good movie, it came out about 2 years ago i think. Anyways, if you're feeling in the mood for anime, go take a look at the entire Neon Genesis series, it's simply amazing. The plot, animation, and general interpretation of life really made me want to come back and watch it a second time. If you see the series, definately watch it a second time, it's surprising just how much you'll pick up :)

As for DD's list, i havent seen *one* of those movies, even though i've heard heaps of good things about them. I so have to have a movie night some time in the holidays :)

Oh and if you want to have a bit of multiculturalism, go and hunt down a copy of the Boys, it's an australian film, so it'd be pretty hard to get ahold of in the US if not impossible, but it's another good 'un :)

The Shawshank Redemption is a great movie. All this talk about American History X (we talked about it today in social psych too) makes me want to watch it for a second time, so definitely put that on your list. Amadeus is also really good.

American Beauty is a truely amazing movie. Anyone that doesn't think so, is to young to get it. Theres a lot of important messages about life.

kingink,

Much great stuff there. Some things I haven't seen. Only one I didn't like: Aguirre, Wrath of God. I did like the soundtrack though. Very cool music.

Of course I could go on and on probably listing well over 100 films, but, well, no one would read it.

Though in general everyone should watch some Chaplin, great stuff. Truly genius and still funny to this day. Bergman. Okay, don't take any depressants and have a loaded gun near you when viewing, but gorgeous stuff some of it. Rossellini. Rome, Open City is a thing of beauty.

And one of my most favorite films of all time, and certainly one of the most beautiful films EVER made: Koyaanisqatsi. One of my favs. :)
