Anybody good at making XP Themes (msstyles) want to help me out?

Anybody good at making styles and have the time to possibly help make the most SIMPLE style out there?

That is, if it's even possible! All I want to do is skin my taskbar and start button. I DON'T want my windows, buttons, scrollbars, etc. skinned. I have a color scheme that I put together and I think it looks pretty enough without any bitmap enhancements. I just want to make my taskbar a thin, rounded taskbar with a simple icon for the start button - much like the MacOSX themes are sporting.

I thought maybe I could run StyleBuilder from TGT Soft and mod another theme by simply removing the attributes from everything except the taskbar. But when I try this the part turns black in the preview and won't display right when I apply it in Windows. The style won't even load if I remove enough parts.

I'm so agrivated about this right now! I was excited about XP's customization abilities when I bought it, but I'm now running the Classic interface with my color scheme applied but still having to look at that piss-ugly winflag next to the word "Start"! What I want is so damn simple, yet they've made it so damn difficult to achieve!!

i hate the start button too, but i took the lazy way out and started using the hacked .dll file, and have my taskbar on autohide.

Dammit I did the SP1 fix to get themes working, and every 30 minutes Windows XP pops up a message saying my system files have been replaced blah blah, would I like to repair it (referring to hacked mstheme.dll) Anyway to make this message go away?

Search for SFCDisable in Regedit and change it to ffffff9d delete all the files in c:\windows\system32\dllcache that should do it.

Thanks Ne0!

Thanks for the offer Neo, that would be great if you could look into this sometime.

UncJIGGA: I don't believe the registry change is enough to disable WFP in XP and 2K SP1. You also have to hexedit a .dll file. Detailed instructions can be found here.

huh? I have a hacked .dll in XP and I got the error once, hit cancel and never got it again. All I did was place the file in the dllcache folder as well so that it can't pull any other file but the hacked one.

Thanks - I've been wanting something like that. I'll have a new visual style tonight. 😎
