I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows XP Pro last night, and whilst the installation seemed to go fine, a few hours later I got a fatal stop BSOD - MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (0x9C) Not long after I got another, then another until it was happening almost straight after booting. I tried to search the M$ knowledge base but found no information of this error, but obviously I was beginning to think it must be related to the installation of SP1, since my machine had always been very stable before. Now, I am overclocking, but not by much - I've got a 1Ghz Athlon running at 100x12, pushing it to 1.2Ghz (I've only increased the multiplier, not the FSB, as the latter does cause some instability). Eventually I found that if I reduced the multiplier to 11 (ie. so my CPU was now at 1.1Ghz) the error seemed to go away (at least, hasn't happened since). I've got pretty good cooling - a GlobalWin FOP 38 with the infamous 7000 rpm delta fan, and my CPU temp rarely goes above 40c. My only conclusion is that something in SP1 has made my machine more sensitive to overclocking, and I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, or could often some advice? Cheers
