I am looking for some Chinese symbols, and have found SEVERAL that are supposed to say the same thing, but are totally different. Dialect maybe?

Also, anyone know of a Chinese Tattoo artist in the NW?

Anyway, if anyone is willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

OK...give me a few and I will send you a couple examples, and see if you can read them (they are just words, nothing complicated).

THANKS!

wow..that's weird.

the first link was the only i could read and pronounce and understand.

the last link looks a lot like the first one except for the first word. I'm guess it's another form of "hot" (which is what the first word means)

second and third links..i have no clue what they are and how they're pronounced.

Maybe they're all different because of the context or whatever the word "passion" is used. But if I was going to get one done..I'd do the first one..just b/c i think most chinese people can read and understand that.

they all mostly mean the samething, just varying degrees of intensity.

btw, pick the first or last one if you want something that most closely resembles passion. The last one is more intense while the first one carries the meaning of enthusiasm depending on the context. The rest is more obscure, can have many interpretations depending on the context.

That has me a little nervous. While I DO UNDERSTAND his motivation, that just ain't right. He could of just refused to Tattoo white people with Japanese.

Not only do I not want the wrong thing done, I want it to be "authentic" chinese both in language and in style - there will be a lot more to it than just the characters.

Thanks again.

Anyone have an answer to the second question? (Chinese Tattoo artist in the NW?)

Actually, I have one more question as well. Can anyone point me to some Chinese Poems that talk about balance in life? (Theme of my tattoo is "balance")

Thanks for all the help.

...do you REALLY have to get a chinese tattoo? theyre really pathetic. seriously, im not trying to be an a$$hole or anything. its just a very very bad idea. don't do it. The only exception i can think of is if you can actually write it yourself, or your family or relatives can. in my eyes, its just like the thread where the guy wanted a samaurai sword. dont rip off other peoples cultures. please just think about that.

First off, I somewhat agree with you. That is why I have done exhaustive research to make sure everything is correct. This is the last piece of a rather extensive project. Since 99% of people with tat's picked them off of the MF wall, I don't feel what I am doing is inappropriate. I understand what EVERYTHING in my Tat will represent, and I mean EVERYTHING. It will be representative of me, designed by me, and will BE me. That is why it is importatnt to me to have it done by a Chinese artist.

I am not going to try and explain to you why in my mind it MUST be a chinese tattoo, but in my case, it is a MUST.

Tell me, how did you decide on yours?

One thing to keep in mind. Same characters are used in Chinese and Japanese. Just FYI, my last name is lee, and my japanese friends always joke w/ me as to why i have 'tree' tattooed on me...

LOL....

Mine will be pretty complex, and it will be OBVIOUSLY Chinese. The Character's are only a VERY small part of it.

Hahah! thats hilarious. How could you possibly have anyother nickname. No one is ever called "tree" and it actually has some meaning.

Don't limit yourself to a Chinese tattoo artist. Get it done by the best and don't think twice.
I know several white guys that can tattoo like its freshly-brushed ink.
are the characters part of a larger piece? like an oriental-style scene?
please elaborate.

Like I said above, this will be a very personal piece. Every part of it has meaning to me, and it must be "correct", and I REALLY REALLY want it to be done by a chinese artist. (It's a spiritual thing).

The actual tattoo will take up most of my back, and the theme of it is BALANCE. (One of my shortcomings)

It will be centered around a large Yin-Yang. Will include two dragons (one white, one black) each will be holding the opposing colored "pearl". One pearl will have the symbol for passion, the other the symbol for wisdom. The pearls will be inside of the Yin-Yang, which itself will be encased in a siver ring. Everything has a meaning - down to how many toes the dragons have......

Don't let the natives fool you. They get us all the time...

The gifs all actually mean "Special #7 with [snowpeas]" or [fried rice] or... you get the idea.
;)

And if I went to Hong Kong, would I see Chinese tattoo parlors inking english words on the locals?

Trust me... don't limit the quality of your tattoo by something that is as trivial as the ethnic background of the artist.
The few asian tattoo artists I've met aren't even 'spiritual'.
Anyway...
You should decide on the artist exclusively by the work he's done that is similar to what you want.
I'd rather have a good oriental tattoo done by a christian/athiest/krishna than a mediocre 'authentic' tattoo.
Have fun!
