So I woke up this AM, and my heel really hurts whenever I walk. I put some sandals on, and it does not hurt as much as it did when walking barefoot, but it still is quite uncomfortable. Someone said I might have strained my heel (though I am not sure if that is possible)

Does anyone have heel pain, and if so, what do you do so that the pain is not so bad.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

It could either be Plantar fasciitis, a heel spur, or tendonitis in your achilles tendon. (Do a search on either Google or your favorite med website.)

Personally, I have Bi-lateral Achilles Tendonitis (both achilles tendons). And often the pain radiates in my heel. I've been to physical therapy, stretch every day, etc. None of it is a permanent fix. It's been going on for over a year, so I'm not really sure what's going to fix it. I suppose if I gave them a real good rest for a decent period of time, it'd heal itself. But that's hardly an option.

I've also used night splints, when it gets fairly bad. My next step is probably orthotics.

Edit: Excellent link, Crazee.

Thanks for the links.

It just seems strange that it is painful now, since I had never had any foot pain before.

i had the plantar thing. really painful but easy to take care of with a trip to the doctor. you will be able to tell if you have that by looking at your heel

Ummm... Don't most conditions start with pain that wasn't there before?

Let me clarify: As an example, when I played baseball, my hamstring would be sore, and then about a day later may be a little more painful, but it eventually went away.

I would not expect pain right away. I would expect soreness or discomfort first, but not just straight pain. That is what I meant. I would expect it to be progressive.
