Anybody ever worked for a temp agency?

I have a temp agency responding to my resume posting on Monster, I'm debating whether or not to call them back.

Pay is crap (duh), but it seems relatively flexible so I might be able to get the hours I want (a few evenings + one or two weekend days) to supplement my current income.

I don't like the idea of working for roughly 1/2 what I make now, but since I wouldn't be giving up my current job I could probably stand it.

Even 20 hours a week would be around $400 a month take home, which would help with my financial goals + alleviate the boredom on weekends.

Should I call her back, or forget the temp agency crap?

I worked for a temp agency a couple of years ago and SprintPCS was their client. I worked like 16 hours per weekend at $11-$13 per hour plus commision. It was a good job while it lasted (they let us go after the holidays) and I thought of it as more of my spenidng money. I also had another job at the time, where I worked 25 hours and got paid $10.50

I say go for it

I worked temp agency stuff in college ... holidays, summers, etc.
Mostly manual labor kinda stuff, construction, warehouses, etc.
The flexibilty was good, the pay was ok for that kind of work.

Not much more to say about it ... helped get me through grad school.

I would actually prefer something with physical labor, but this is call center staffing... Their listed starting wage is $8 an hour, hopefully my experience would get me more than that (three years doing tech support).

I suppose if I don't like it I could always walk, nothing lost really...

I'm used to it, I work in a call center all day anyway.

At least most of my customers are somewhat intelligent, supporting a $1,000+ printer weeds out a lot of the morons.

I've worked for a temp agency for 13 months. It's not really anything different than working two jobs... You do work but get a different name on the paycheck.

Go for it, though. Get some experience elsewhere and some diversity in your week. :)

There's your answer right there.

If you don't like it, just tell them it's interfering with your health/studies/family/whatever.

See, I could do that kind of phone support and not complain. The company I work for makes software to manage corporate lobbies. 90% of my support calls come from receptionists or security guards. There is a lot of this type of stuff going on "now press the start button. It should be in the lower left. It says 'Start' on it."

Yea, I'm sure that helps. Working temp service though, you'll probably be the front-line bonehead screener, reading from a script.

Actually, one of the temp service assignments was my most interesting/fun pre-proffesional job.
I got to help build a mondo-big waterslide in an amusement park, learned to drive a big 4WD industrial fork lift (4 steering modes!), picked steel & fiberglass chutes for a huge crane, read blueprints, and got to act like a typical construction grub staring at all the teenage lifeguards :D

Was 10-12 hrs a day 7 days a week @ $9/hr + time and a half over 40 hrs, so was great money at the time.
They went through temps like crazy ... nobody else wanted to work that hard.

The company wanted to hire me outright ... they designed & built waterslides all over the world (next job was in Australia). I considered it, wonder where I'd be now?
