Anybody ever work for Radio Shack?

I'm thinking of getting a temporary job at Radioshack, until I get a 'real' job. Does anyone have any experience, or likes/dislikes about the job. I worked at BestBuy years ago and it was pretty miserable. I'm not the type of person to push a product on someone when I know it isn't worth it (ie service plans). Any input appreciated.

Don't know about where you live, but radio shack around here has turned into a cell phone store mainly. Last time I was in there looking for an electronic part the guy didn't have a clue what I was even asking for.

Yea, the thing that worries me the most is that I'm afraid I'll turn into a cell phone dealer, instead of helping people find the right resistor or potentiometer. Seeing the short video they showed me made me want to puke, but money's money. We'll see.

I work as a stock boy in one for a year when I was 16, it wasn't that bad really, just the pay was shyte.

That's not true. I was roommates with a guy who worked at RadioShack throughout college and he was extremely smart.

It's a sales job, and if you want to do well, you'll convince the guy who comes in looking for a video cable that he needs a satellite dish and home theater system . That said, if you didn't like working retail before, you probably won't like working retail now.

I used to work for the Shack, and it definately changed while I was there. We went from doing a lot of electronics to now pretty much just cell phones. I lived near an Engineering college, so we would always get the people in looking for electronics parts. As much as the job is selling, you do get to answer a lot of people's questions. Some are very happy to get the help, others think they are smarter than you and don't need the help. You get a mix working for the general public.

The geographical area you work in plays a biiiig role in your sales. What is the income like in your area?
