Anybody ever taken off their p4 IHS?

im thinking about doing that and seeing what kind of temp difference it makes, i have read some articles about it and it seems to work well, but i was wondering if anybody here has ever done it, and what kind of temp differences it makes?

Not worth it in my opinion. But i only tried it on a p3... but hope it works better for you. good luck.

All the P4 heatsinks are made in light of the IHS though, so I think if you took it off, the heatsink clip wouldn't be applying enough pressure and you might get worse cooling.

Ive removed several of them, the max temps didnt go down much at all, maybe 1-2'c...but the ramp UP and DOWN was much faster..went from 22/idle to 44/load in a few secs...then back down real quick (load was Prime95x2)

good for the extremists....i think its just better to lap the IHS tho like i did
